Suggestion

Post by WinePusher »

So, I have a proposal that's going to change the very nature of this forum. Please take time to research the topic and meditate on it before you vote:

Instead of how it is currently:

Posts 1000

I propose we change it to:

So, the question is very complex:

Comma, No Comma?

Vote, it's your duty as a internet user.

According to the International Organization for Standardization, ISO 31, numbers consisting of long sequences of digits can be made more readable by separating them into groups, preferably groups of three, separated by a small space. For this reason, ISO 31-0 specifies that such groups of digits should never be separated by a comma or point, as these are reserved for use as the decimal sign. In much of Europe, Southern Africa and Latin America the comma is used as a decimal separator, equivalent to the use in English of the decimal point. According to International System of Units, spaces may be used as a thousands separator (1 000 000) in contrast to commas or periods (1,000,000 or 1.000.000) in order to reduce confusion resulting from the variation between these forms in different countries. In print, the space used for this purpose is typically narrower than that between words (commonly a thin space).

Vote No, in the interest of international understanding, harmony and peace.

At least we have an informed voter here. If you visit any other reputable debate site:

debate.org
americasdebate.com
debatepolitics.com

you'll see that they seperate post counts with commas when they reach above 1,000. I thought this forum would like to seize the oppurtunity to come out of the dark ages, but I guess being different is good too :eyebrow:.

Come out of the dark ages??? This is a religion board!
Dogmatism and skepticism are both, in a sense, absolute philosophies; one is certain of knowing, the other of not knowing. What philosophy should dissipate is certainty, whether of knowledge or ignorance.

It may come to a bit of a surprise to some people, but the United States of America is a bit out of step with the rest of the world with regard to standards. The debate sites cited above, are good examples of the established American-centric standards.

The metric system was invented by atheist revolutionaries. It is part of a plot to destroy religion.

We can be a revolutionary, non-American-centrist website (and show it in tiny tiny ways...) if we separate thousands with a small space :D I'd vote yes for that.

PS: The USA's customary unit system sucks.

I can go into a pub in the UK and order a pint, even though they use the metric system.

You should give up your quarter-pounders.
