From the OP:
And so are the atheists, the Muslim sorts, the Christians, and so many others that make up that great land.
I'm an atheist to my core, and I live in a hodunk town in a hodunk county in a hodunk state within the US, but in the metaphorical deal there - I am Israel! I am Israeli!.
Yes.Are the Jews Israel?

Post #8Heck, the Jews themselves have difficulty with the identity question. cf: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_identity
Israel can refer to
- a contemporary state in Western Asia located on the eastern edge of the Mediterranean Sea
- The biblical patriarch Jacob
- the descendants of this patriarch
- By extension, the Jewish people
- Land of Israel, the land promised by God to the Israelites in the southern Levant
- Kingdom of Israel (united monarchy) (1020 BCE - 931 BCE),
- Kingdom of Israel (Samaria) (931 BCE - 722 BCE), the secessionist kingdom of northern Israelites
- The state ruled by the Hasmoneans or "Maccabees" (140"37 BCE), primarily known as Judea but also called Israel in the First Book of Maccabees
- The state ruled by Herod the Great and his heirs (37"4 BCE), primarily known as Judea but also called Israel in the Gospels and Acts
- an unincorporated community in West Virginia
And this excludes any metaphorical or spiritual meanings of these words.
Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.
