In Another thread I asked if Christianity discriminated against women. The responses have sort of led to another issue that I find perplexing. What exactly is it about Christianity that is attractive to women? Does it have any benefits to the female species?
To make what's open for debate clear:
1) What benefits does Christianity offer to women?
2) Does any scripture exist to support women being equal to man?

Post #2Here's a few examples I can think of straight away -Confused wrote: To make what's open for debate clear:
1) What benefits does Christianity offer to women?
a) Social outings?
b) Opportunity to belong to a club where hopefully no drugs or alchohol or violence etc. are present? (Unfortunately however history has shown that trinitarians were extremely violent, cruel and malicious against those that wouldn't accept their trinitarian ' god of love? '.)
c) Not likely to be beaten for the slightest thing like denying their husbands sex as do the Muslems against their wives.
d) Unlikely to meet terrorists that want to blow you up!
e) In theory, co-equal opportunities per Gal. 3:28-29 shown below!
f) Opportunity to learn false beliefs regarding the contents of a Story book and discuss them in an incestuous back slapping environment! (incestuous. 2. having relationships restricted to a particular group or organization. Source: Pocket Oxford Dictionary)
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if ye [be] Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Gal. 3:28-29) KJV Story bookConfused wrote: 2) Does any scripture exist to support women being equal to man?
i.e. NO gender inequality for proven genuine believers, according to Story book bible!

Your alleged gods are very bad god persons, I am offering them the chance to become good god persons for the very first time, but only after they admit they are bad god persons and want to try again.

Post #3Christianity offers women the opportunity to worship an all powerful male God who violated the womb of a virginal teenager for purposes of impregnation; whose chosen few disciples were all male and whose supposed earthly representatives (the Church) are governed by an enormously wealthy, untaxed all boys club over populated with pedophiles.Confused wrote:In Another thread I asked if Christianity discriminated against women. Post #5Please provide evidence that Mary was a teenager, and evidence that her womb was 'violated.' I gather that in many modern societies writing false accusations is known as libel, and I've also heard the term "innocent until proven guilty" on occasion. So naturally your evidence would be appreciated.Flail wrote:Christianity offers women the opportunity to worship an all powerful male God who violated the womb of a virginal teenager for purposes of impregnation; whose chosen few disciples were all male and whose supposed earthly representatives (the Church) are governed by an enormously wealthy, untaxed all boys club over populated with pedophiles.Confused wrote:In Another thread I asked if Christianity discriminated against women. Could you also define 'over populated' - how many pedophiles do we need before it's safe to declare any given institution "over populated with pedophiles"? Again, little terms like defamation or vilification are just things I've picked up in a general sort of way, nothing I know about in any kind of legal sense, as it were.

Essentially it offers women, the same thing it offers men, a hope for the future and the chance to enjoy a personal relationship with God. Jesus explained that Christianity would satisfy a "spiritual need" and render those conscious of it, "happy" and this is the case regardless of if one is male or female.
The bible presents men and women as being different and definitely having different roles in the family and congregational arrangement, but this difference does not imho mean they are not equal in the sight of God.

Re: What does Christianity offer women?
Post #7I can't provide detailed exegetical evidence, but I was taught in undergrad religion classes in a sectarian school and again in seminary that Mary would have been a teenager, like all brides at the time, possibly and even likely as young as 13. This appears to be supported by a non controversial consensus.Mithrae wrote:
Please provide evidence that Mary was a teenager,
- if from God, her pregnancy was announced as a fait accompli, without her consent.and evidence that her womb was 'violated.'
- if from man, there are theories based on linguistic analysis (a word I forget for Jesus as a disaproved outsider) that Mary may have been impregnated by an undesirable, likley a Roman. And likely raped. Which, like teen brides, was also common among a subjucated people. But there is not consensus here. I have no opinion. Although I've always respected people who had the passion to seek sex premaritally, so maybe that was it. Ever-virgin is such a downer.
You can't libel a dead person or a mythical god character in a piece of literature.I gather that in many modern societies writing false accusations is known as libel, and I've also heard the term "innocent until proven guilty" on occasion. So naturally your evidence would be appreciated.
But nonetheless, evidence is provided.
I do think Flail sorta misses the point of the myth however. Hey, the buddha's mom was said to be impreganated by the trunk of an elephant god, which couldn't have been fun!
Re: What does Christianity offer women?
Post #8As a female Christian, do you feel equal to the male counterparts? Or are you aware of any scripture that actually gives women equality? I am quite familiar with scripture and am aware of a few vague passages that refer to women and men being "one" with Christ, but it seems to me that the few vague passages tend to be followed by passages about submission and ownership or lack of rights for women.JehovahsWitness wrote:As a female Christian I feel I'm in a position to answer this from a personal point of view.Confused wrote:In Another thread I asked if Christianity discriminated against women. Re: What does Christianity offer women?
Post #9Wan't Mary informed by an angel that she was to carry Christ and did she not consent to said impregnation? I am not sure about the teenage part but I seem to recall her consenting to the plan. I have to go review the actual passages, but I am pretty sure about that.Flail wrote:Christianity offers women the opportunity to worship an all powerful male God who violated the womb of a virginal teenager for purposes of impregnation; whose chosen few disciples were all male and whose supposed earthly representatives (the Church) are governed by an enormously wealthy, untaxed all boys club over populated with pedophiles.Confused wrote:In Another thread I asked if Christianity discriminated against women. Post #10Owned by men is love? Stoning to death is love? I guess I am trying to determine how Christianity offers love to a woman.
