Non-believers to BURN IN HELL!

Post by JoeyKnothead »

Some'll say that if you reject Bible tales, you'll burn in Hell.

For debate:
Please offer some means to confirm the veracity of the claim.

If the claim can't be shown to be true and factual, is it uncivil, or perhaps more importantly morally right to present such an argument in order to encourage religious belief?

Why might a response of "Go to Hell" be inappropriate in the face of such a threat to one's well-being, while the threat itself may receive a pass?

I have said for years that Christians all too often get a 'pass' when critiquing non-believers by implying that we are all so despised by the BibleGod that He is bound to cast us all into the torments of Hell for all of eternity. When we counter with like vitriol with our own diatribe we are often called to the carpet for being uncivil, disrespectful and even shameful. Which is one of the ways BibleGod superstitions persist; by making it off limits to say anything demeaning as to BibleGod in polite company. And I say to hell with that...

How to confirm this claim? Why, read the Bible of course.

Example:
Matthew 19:16-19

16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?
17 “Why do you ask me about what is good? Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.
18 “Which ones? he inquired.
Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’
So you get eternal life by following moral codes that are common to pretty much all cultures throughout history (v18). And Jesus does not personally have anything to do with it (v17).

You will find this same story in Mark and Luke so it must be the real deal.

Wait, where was the part about believing the Bible?

OK then how about this:
Luke 10:25-37

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher, he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?
26 “What is written in the Law? he replied. “How do you read it?
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
28 “You have answered correctly, Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.
So to get eternal life you have to treat your neighbor charitably. Who is eligible for this? Everyone (v 37).

Wait, where was the part about believing the Bible?

OK, one more time.
Matthew 25:31-46

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.
So you get eternal life by treating people charitably, without doing it for religious reasons (v37-39).

Wait, where was the part about believing the Bible?

Oh well….

It appears from what you have recited here that, at least according to Jesus, religiosity and particularly Pauline Christianity as commonly practiced today are irrelevant to BibleGod as being unnecessary and perhaps even misleading.

Today's Christianity is often in contradiction to both the Gospels and an honest reading of Paul. Of course "today's Christianity" covers a lot of territory so I do not want to make any blanket statements.

I think many should think what they really reject when they reject Bible tales. When they really know that, they may understand why only righteous people will have eternal life.

These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.
Mat. 25:46

It is quite sad thing that many believe that it is enough if they say that they believe that Jesus and God is, when according to Bible, only righteous will have eternal life. And righteousness is more than believing.

Bible says in many parts, righteous will live by his faith (Habakkuk 2:4, Galatians 3:11, Hebrews 10:38). And faith means that people is faithful to God. Faithful has similar meaning than loyal.

And when you have faith to God, you keep what God said and try to live according to it, because you understand it is good and right. If you have right understanding of good and bad, it proves you righteous. And it shows that you are eligible to have eternal life. If you love more wrong than right, it shows that you don’t fit in to kingdom, where only righteous is allowed to live.

Righteous is not that you do right things, it is that you understand what is right and want to live according to it. And when you are righteous you also understand that Law of Moses is righteous and good law. And when you try to follow it, you don’t do it therefore that you could earn something, you do it because you understand it is good and you love God and therefore want to do that what is his will.

I hope people soon understand that eternal life is not because of belief or because of right acts. It is because one has right understanding. And when people have right understanding, it leads to good acts. You may not believe this, but God wants to keep all that is righteous, and eventually he will remove all that is bad and evil. This is why Jesus came to declare forgiveness and taught that people must change to righteous (be reborn).

There are too many people in the world that act as in following part.

Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

I was not taking aim at that particular target. (Today anyway O:) ) Just showing that according to the Gospels earning eternal life does not require anything more than honestly living a moral and charitable moral life.

Stop quibbling about faith or works and solve it all by obeying the Papal command: Neca eos omnes. Deus suos agnocet.

Mmm... But that is a rather simplistic reading, and doesn't account for, say, the commands to believe in Christ as Lord and Savior, not to mention the vaster Christian tradition within which Scripture has its place.

As Augustine says, "Love, and do as you will."
