The exact same thought had occurred to me. I agree, there could be a connection.Eddington wrote:

Absolutely correct. Rob raises this problem in an earlier post. The problem is that neither of the "respectable sources describe the chromosphere as "a layer of gaseous calcium 6000 miles thick".
This is one of the alarming assumptions I referred to in a previous post. I intend to address it further in a post about calculating percentages of solar mass. :sleep:Another issue to be considered is just what is the chromosphere in relation to the "calcium layer?" Most determinations of the thickness of the chromosphere are based on measurements of radiation from hydrogen, not calcium.
I would have thought it was self-contradictory.ENIGMA wrote:A self-evidently unproven assertion.Bro Dave wrote: There are no provalbe absolute truths.
I agree with you both. I believe I addressed this issue in an earlier post, but may not have explained myself very well.Arrow wrote:Howdy, Mc.

Hey a oneness unversalist everyone is OK theology! But certainly nothing new. Of course this would be incompatible with Christianty which as everyone is well-aware of is very "one-way."What I find so attractive about the Urantia Book, is that it offers such a grand overview, explaining in beautiful concise prose, how the universe and everything in it relate, and how and why it was all created. But it goes further! It shows not only where we came from, but describes in great detail how we will proceed once this Universe has been "completed".
Urantia Brotherhood
The year 1989 saw an end to the URANTIA Brotherhood and a beginning for the Fifth Epochal Fellowship. In a letter dated 9 November 1989 all members of the Brotherhood were notified that a shake-up at headquarters had taken place and things, including the name, had changed. While the group has a new name, its doctrines and purposes remain as they were "originally established," (p. 3).
Of all the cultic systems in all the world, none is more intricate than that of URANTIA! This organization has Orders of Trinity Beings, Supreme Beings, Ascending Beings, Sons of God, Universe Power Directors, Michael class (a very important group) and nearly ad infinitum. Within each Order there may be anywhere from a few thousand to many million beings (The URANTIA Book, pp. 330-344). Various sections of this 2,097 page book were sent to earth by the "Orvonton administrators" (p. 354), and the "...Nebadon commission of twelve acting under the direction of Mantutia Melchizedek," (p. 1319).
The doctrines are nearly as hard to understand as the source from whence they came. As with many groups which do not appreciate the thought of Jesus being the Only Begotten Son of God, URANTIA has an interesting solution to this problem. They teach, prior to His Earthly life, Jesus' real name was Michael of Nebadon. They state, "Our Creator Son (another Order of beings) is the personification of the 611,121st original concept of infinite identity of simultaneous origin in the Universal Father and the Eternal Son.
"The Michael of Nebadon is the `only-begotten Son' personalizing this 611,121st universal concept of divinity and infinity," (Ibid, p.366; parenthesis added). In other words, Jesus (Michael) is the Son of the Son of God and the Father in the sense that when these two beings had a simultaneous original thought for the 611,121st time, Jesus (Michael) was begotten.
The Brotherhood does have a similarity to other groups in that they teach, "There dwells within you a fragment of the Universal Father, and you are thus directly related to the divine Father and all the Sons of God," (Ibid, p. 448). However, unlike many other cults which teach they are the only true church, the URANTIA teach, "We believe in every church and in all forms of worship," (URANTIA Brotherhood Bulletin, Vol. 6, No. 1, p. 4). With this attitude in mind, and in their own peculiar way, they hope to unite "...all world religions and all world religionists," (Bulletin, Supplement, p. 1).
(I have a copy of the Urantia Book. Unfortunately (I guess) it just appeared like another automatic writing as its story is odd to say the least. It reminds me of my copy of the Oaspe, A Kosmon Bible.)The Urantia Book and the Bible: A Comparative Study of

It would appear from the above that there is little commonality with the belief system known as Christianity.I have been reading the Urantia Book for over 30 years now, and it still amazes me everytime I open it. It "demands" nothing, and rather than claiming to be a higher authority, it brings together all backgrounds and shows our commonality.
While the claim of authorship may seem difficult to accept, after one has read the entire book it is abundantely clear that in breadth of understanding understanding, and continuity and quality of writing, is beyond the capability of any human, or even any group of humans.
Jesus never claimed this. But Mormonism and Islam does. Joseph Smith though having much more space alien stuff to agree upon. That, coupled with the fact that no one has anything to gain by creating such a tome, except if it is what it claims to be; The fifth in a series of revelations to mankind.
There is no charismatic leader(s), and no one makes any money for its sales.
It is, I believe intellectually worthy of consideration by any who honestly would like to understand more about religion, philosophy and cosmology.

The fact that the UB is incompatible with the the Gospels does not substantiate your recommendation that there is no need for any "in-depth" reading, this is of course your opinion and admittedly an uneducated one. There is no need for any "in-depth" reading of the Urantia book. It is not compatible with the Gospels and as usual is a rewrite of Biblical based belief. From the Gospels to Mormonism to Heavens Gate to politics, the Gospel is the source of much that is challenged by those that change it.
http://urantiabook.org/archive/readers/doc112.htmMany religions are complex, but the real gospel of Jesus is simple: Love God your Father, and love your fellow man. If you do this you will be doing the Father's will, and you will have an eternal life of love and service with God. This real gospel of Jesus will also be acceptable to all of God's children on earth who love Him, whether they be Christian, Moslem, Jew, Buddhist, or Hindu.
Precisely. But again, no reason to discount the possibility of validity. As in the quote from E. Hook.. too much faith put in canonical and orthodox knowlege .The common man can look at the Bible and Urantia and see that there is a challenge to Jewish and Chrsiatian beliefs.
Ignorance of the book has again lead you to make an unfounded assumption. If anything the UB has shown me how surprisingly broad are the gates of eternal life and how justice will not destroy what mercy can save.... or something like that.It is one af many NewAge attempts to universalize an uncomfortable message that heaven awaits people down one street.
I would suggest that the first appearance of these easy doctrines is to be found in Pauline Christianity. I understand that it was necessary for Paul to distort the gospel or rather marry it with existing beliefs to make it pallatable for the masses. This accomplished it's end no doubt, but not without the unfortunate distortion of truth. If the concept of Eternal Damnation and hell were not woven into the story it would have taken much longer surely to convert the superstitious masses into greater enlightenment. The effects of this fear/control are still observable in fundamental Christian mentality. How many Christians will ignore the UB simply through the fear of being damned for there transgression? What control. The UB contains no such scare tactics to control. On the contrary, after reading the book I am completely without fear and know that my eternal salvation is secured. Furthermore, the concept of eternal life has been explained to a much greater extent then the vague and misty image of heaven that Christians must rely on. As a result I am motivated towards righteousness as opposed to numbly obeying scripture to avoid damnation.Jesus and the New Testament didn't proclaim that everyone would just come running to the Gospel message, but that in fact it would be very hard to swallow and that people would invent easy doctrines to follow instead of the absoluteness of words of Christ Jesus.
Little old ladies in candy houses are to be avoided for sure, but as well we should beware the priest or rabbi that claim salvation is achieved only through the dictates of thier church or synagogue, which is of course another control based fairy tale.Rememeber the fable about Hansel and Gretel? Sweet little old lady invites the kiddies in for traets and only after they have been traeted so kindly, do they learn the fate prepared for them.
History is reliable only in as much as we trust those who wrote it.From instinct and history we are warned.

I made it as one well educated in the original. Good banks only teach tellers how to handle good bills so they will know easily the counterfeits. If Urantia floats your boat OK. But it has leveled the challenge to the original. No different than Islam, Mormons or Jehovah Witnesses or Diantics. Poor Jesus never gets to rest. Now he's an astronaut. The fact that the UB is incompatible with the the Gospels does not substantiate your recommendation that there is no need for any "in-depth" reading, this is of course your opinion and admittedly an uneducated one.
My opinion...?
The Gospels you refer to have been manipulated, corrupted, this in part was why this revelation was neccessary.

This says absolutely nothing. Urantia and Christianity are at odds. Nothing undeclared in that.http://urantiabook.org/archive/readers/doc112.htm

Jesus and you are at odds. Jesus was clear, so very clear about the wide road. Now I see why Urantia has a different Jesus. WARNING WILL ROBINSON. HERESY WILL ROBINSON!Ignorance of the book has again lead you to make an unfounded assumption. Distort the Gospel? That is a declaration of doctrinal war.I understand that it was necessary for Paul to distort the gospel or rather marry it with existing beliefs to make it pallatable for the masses.

Well, another attack on fundamentalism. What a surprise. The effects of this fear/control are still observable in fundamental Christian mentality.
Maybe comparing weirdness to historical facts has something to with it?How many Christians will ignore the UB simply through the fear of being damned for there transgression?
Of course. Why follow a way that has consequences. I suppose you are also not growing old or going to die either? What control. The UB contains no such scare tactics to control. On the contrary, after reading the book I am completely without fear and know that my eternal salvation is secured.
So the honesty in the New Testament is disconcerting? I find a religion based on sanity refreshing in a world where men are demanding to marry men and "almost everyone" is celebrating that demand. Which, I'm betting a buck-fifty, is OK with Urantiaites. Sorry, no myths in the Bible.Furthermore, the concept of eternal life has been explained to a much greater extent then the vague and misty image of heaven that Christians must rely on.
As a result I am motivated towards righteousness as opposed to numbly obeying scripture to avoid damnation.

In the case of Urantia this would provide hours of laughter as well as logic and reason to dismantle its story. Then again, the laughter would be dissolved into realizing that real humans believe it is somehow not fiction.Would we not do better to use reason and logic to discern truth?
