I feel like we've been beating around the bush for... 6000 years!
Can you please either provide some evidence for your supernatural beliefs, or admit that you have no evidence?
If you believe there once was a talking donkey (Numbers 22) could you please provide evidence?
If you believe there once was a zombie invasion in Jerusalem (Mat 27) could you please provide evidence?
If you believe in the flying horse (Islam) could you please provide evidence?
Walking on water, virgin births, radioactive spiders who give you superpowers, turning water into wine, turning iron into gold, demons, goblins, ghosts, hobbits, elves, angels, unicorns and Santa.
Can you PLEASE provide evidence?
Let's cut to the chase. Do you have any evidence?

Are you claiming to believe nothing?? I would suggest that you think about your own beliefs.Especially if the central tenant of their dogma is faith (a belief grounded in admitting there is no evidence for its supernatural claims).
It is common knowledge that one's evidence almost exclusively consists of the totality of propositions that one knows and the evidence we would accept are that 'evidence' that justifies our belief. In other words ‘reason to believe’ and ‘evidence’ are more or less the same thing i.e. evidence justifies belief.
This would mean that atheists, for example, will only accept the evidence that justifies their belief. The further consequence is that they will simply not accept any evidence of supernatural acts as described in Scripture because it does not 'feed' their existing beliefs.
I see you're new here so: atheism isn't a belief, it's the lack of a belief.
Atheism is a belief like 'off' is a tv channel and not collecting stamps is a hobby.
And what you are saying is not 'common knowledge' at all.
People that value logic and reason first look at the evidence and then make up their mind, as opposed to what you're doing.
We don't accept the 'supernatural' (whatever that may be) because there is no evidence for it. I also don't believe in Zeus or Fairies, but if tomorrow a muscular bearded guy comes down from Olympos and starts wielding thunderbolts en does all kinds of god-like stuff while claiming he is Zeus, I might have to change that opinion.
So what you say about evidence not being accepted is completely false.
There is no evidence to even reject.

Mommy and daddy love each other very much, and one way they show that they love each other is by holding each other tight in bed without clothes. It may look like mommy and daddy are wrestling, but actually they are expressing their love. And that's where babies come from.
No buddy, it's not the stork and it's not the holy spirit. No buddy, it doesn't matter if your friend in school says it's the stork. No buddy, it doesn't matter if some anonymous iron age scribe who never ever met anybody who ever met anybody who ever met anybody who was monitoring Mary's sex life 9 before Jesus was born, says it was the holy spirit. The only way for mommy to have a baby is for daddy to hug her without clothes on.

Please be civil when posting on the forum. I doubt you would wish to be spoken to that way.

All people believe in something. Christians believe in God.
Your definition of atheism is wrong. Atheism is not "lack of a belief". It is a lack of a belief in a god or God. Atheists believe other things but they still believe something - like some of the findings of scientists.
Don't be patronizing. I might be new on the board but I am not stupid!Right.

I wasn't giving a definition, I was trying to make you see that an atheist lacks a belief, and not 'has a belief God doesn't exist'.
You should really read some other posts if you think that's me being patronizing.
Some people here don't respect the fact that words have actual meanings, so I apologize if you think I was being snide.
I don't 'believe' anything.
At best, I grant trust, which differs from 'belief' because the former is based on previous experience.
Also, if you know how the scientific method works, there very little reason not to trust peer reviewed scientific journals.
You can't compare blind faith to placing careful trust in the scientific method.

Post #1428I don't believe in commenting on the recency with which a poster has joined, but since you brought it up, this 'atheism is a religion' nonsense has been throughly debunked on this forum. Every new Christian poster here seems to want to repeat this silly idea, tho' I am not sure of the motivation. Maybe it is something they learn at Christian Summer camp; some notion their local preacher gets away with since he's preaching to the choir.Doulos wrote: [Replying to post 1419 by Dantalion]

Look it up, 'atheism' is the antonym for 'religion.'
Certainly some atheists may have beliefs or opinions they hold with religious fervor, but that does not make atheism a religion.
And certainly atheists have beliefs, but they do not include the supernatural.

Post #1429Easy. Didn't happen. These events simply did not happen and even many if not most Christian scholars of the Bible agree that many of these events simply did not happen. Many of these events were taken wholesale from earlier traditions and myths and simply plugged into Genesis. The same is true of other books. Lets take Job. Do you really believe God and Satan literally strolled together and God allowed Satan to bait him into allowing the torture of a good man?Doulos wrote: [Replying to post 1 by no evidence no belief]

that is absolutely incorrect, trust and belief are 2 different concepts.
Why do theists struggle with this ?
