There are many, many, many sects of christianity in the world.
People are told there's only 'one truth' (whatever that means). So which truth - which sect, is the 'one' with 'the truth'?
Surely if there was only 1 truth, there would be one sect that has all of its beliefs falling in-line with the '1 truth's' parameters. Any deity worth mentioning should be able to provide the one truth to its chosen people (and yes I'm more than comfortable with setting parameters for said deity - get over it...after all, someone needs to do so).
So which christian sect/group/denomination is correct?
Which one has the 'one truth' that humanity needs?
Or do they all produce the 'one truth' or none?
Or is there no 'one truth' so the 'chase' doesn't matter?

Wikipedia counts approximately 41,000 different Christian denominations. If only one can be the one true belief, that means all of the others must be false. There are going to be an awful lot of very surprised and disappointed people come judgement day.

None. They're all false.

I would say that there are at least two or three major ways of answering this question. If lineage and Pauline tradition are one's main concertn, it would be Roman Catholoicism. All other trinitarian versions of Christianty are offshoots.
If simplicity and closeness to the teachings of Jesus are one's prime consideration, then it would be classical Unitarianism (19th century) as opposed to Trinitarianism.
A case can be made (maybe on another thread) that primitive Christians were ALL unitarians who believed not in Jesus divnity, but in his messiahship, that is before the Church councils declared him to be "God".
Evidence of this? The Didache and the apostolic salutations of the New Testament, most of which follow the formula: "blessings from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. No implication of Divinity even from Paul, in those salutations. God is characterized as "Father" and Jesus is given the title "Lord", which also of course applies to earthly, kingly masters.
But modern Unitarian Universalists, unlike the 19th century ones, do not even require a belief in God nowadays. while they USED to teach the "Fatherhood of God, the brotherhood of Man and the leadership of Christ".
If one takes fidelity to the Bible, as the main criteria, I would say the Jehovah's Witnesses, except for the doctrine regarding the pre-existence of Jesus supposedly being Michael the Archangel and some of their teachings about the end times. Also the Christadelphians. And I say this as an outsider, seems to me they have the most accurate reading of the Bible.
But as I do not accept the Bible in it's entirety, I think Thomas Jefferson had a more accurate approach with his "pick and choose" method, and in many ways I share his Christian Deist point of view, and would like to believe that is closest to Jesus original message.

My theological positions:
-God created us in His image, not the other way around.
-The Bible is redeemed by it's good parts.
-Pure monotheism, simple repentance.
-YHVH is LORD
-The real Jesus is not God, the real YHVH is not a monster.
-Eternal life is a gift from the Living God.
-Keep the Commandments, keep your salvation.
-I have accepted YHVH as my Heavenly Father, LORD and Savior.
I am inspired by Jesus to worship none but YHVH, and to serve only Him.

I do not see how ANY of the vices in that quote have anything to do with the foundation of any sect of Christianity, if so, please explain. But no sect that I am aware of was ever founded on a behavioral vice, but rather only on theological differences. (except maybe Anglicanism, from Henry the XIII's desire for a divorce that the Pope would not grant).

Many, many, many sects of Christianity fall in line with the parameters of the one truth.
Historically speaking, Christians have defined Christianity by adherence to certain beliefs. Traditionally, those beliefs are summed up in the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, and the Apostles and Nicene Creeds.
Individual Christians and individual sects of Christianity are free to hold or reject a wide variety of other beliefs. As long as they hold to these central truths then they are within the parameters of the 1 truth that our Deity has been able to provide to its chosen people.

That's "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints," the largest group of Mormons.
Of course I believe that. If I didn't, I wouldn't be a Mormon. I'd be 'something else' and then I'd think THAT is the belief system with the 'truth.'
I would hope that each and every one of you has the same opinion about your own belief system, whether it is theist, atheist, deist, ignostic or agnostic, and whatever subset of any of the above you subscribe to. If you don't, then what are you doing there?
Go find the one you think has the truth...or at least the 'most truth' and say so.
As to whether I can prove to you that my own belief system is 'truer' than yours?
Nope, I can't do that. That's your job...yours, and God's, if you think there might be one.

Yes, there certainly seems to be many, many different sects in the Christian Faith. It is said that there are over 40,000 different sects, but is this the reality? Well lets take into consideration the denomination, I happen to be apart of. It began in 1998, when 5 independent Churches joined together to form this denomination. Before these Churches joined together, they were each listed as a totally separate denomination, even though they were not part of any particular denomination. When they joined together, there were those inside the Faith, that advised against this joining together to form this new denomination, and the reason given was because it would make the Faith even more diverse. However, these Churches that joined together pointed out the fact that, this joining would actually make the number of denominations less, seeing as how they were each considered a denomination, by themselves before they joined together. This means once these five Churches joined, there were now, 4 less denominations! Now lets take in consideration, how many independent Churches, there are throughout the world. In other words, there are many, many, Churches in small villages throughout the world, that are not in any way associated with any particular denomination, and each, and every one of these Churches, are listed as a complete different denomination, even though they hold the same beliefs, as many other Christians. With this being the case then, the number of denominations drops significantly!
Now, lets us talk about some of the differences between some of these denominations. The denomination, I was reared in is the Advent Christian, denomination. There is only a few doctrinal differences, between, Advent Christians, and Baptists, none of which are essential to the Faith. In other words, Advent Christians, do not look at the Baptist, and say you all are not saved, because you do not believe as we do, and Baptist do not look on Advent Christians in this way. However, to avoid confusion over these minor doctrinal differences, they separated. I will give you the differences. The AC, believes in the sleep of the dead, while the Baptist do not. This difference is not essential to the Gospel message, but so as to avoid confusion in the Church, (in other words, one person teaching sleep of the dead, while another is teaching differently), they agree to separate. The other difference would be, the AC, teaches conditional immortality, (in other words, they do not believe in eternal punishment), while the Baptist would disagree. My point is, as you can see there are only minor difference between these two, and they would not in any way claim the other was not Christian, in fact they would consider each other brothers, and sisters in Christ! I myself, am not associated with either of these denominations, however I would consider both of these Christian denominations, and Brothers, and sisters.
Now let us consider all the Reformed denominations listed. There are Presbyterians, Associate Reformed Presbyterians, Reformed Churches in America, Dutch Reformed Churches, and the list goes on, in fact there are 29 different Reformed denomination listed. All of these Reformed Churches would hold to the Westminster Confession, and consider each other Christians, and brothers, and sisters in Christ! All of this goes to demonstrate, that the number of denominations listed in wikipedia, is an extremely exaggerated number, and once you were to get down to the correct number of different denominations, this does not mean, they all are in disagreement over the essentials of the Faith. In other words, the overwhelming majority would have only minor differences, and would consider each other Christian in Faith, despite these differences!
The point is, a good number of these many, many, denominations, have no difference at all. Many of the others who may have minor differences, agree on the essentials, therefore, the division is nowhere as huge as the 40,000 number seems to make it!
