Welcome!

It seems to me, that new members rarely post a introduction thread anymore. As such I am making this thread as a way that new members can say hi, and get to know a couple of people on the forums.

So to all the new members:

First of all, hello!

Second, why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself?

“A detective story generally describes six living men discussing how it is that a man is dead. A modern philosophic story generally describes six dead men discussing how any man can possibly be alive.

Hi, I'm new as well.

About me: My background is in conservative Christianity, but I lost my faith while in college. Ironically, I was earning a degree in biblical studies at the time.

I love these debates, but having them online is better. They get too heated IRL. :)

Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome. It seems that it is very stereotypical for people to loose their faith when in college doing biblical studies.
“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?

I failed to introduce myself when I joined (I didn't know this thread existed). Now some of you have probably had your fill of me already, so I won't go into details here, but if not you could always ask specific questions about me in the Questions for a Specific User forum :D

Hi, I'm Liam. I am an engineering physics student. I was raised in a very devout Christian (evangelical with fundamentalist tendencies) home, but recently have decided that I cannot ethically maintain that belief system. Since then, the atheist in me that has wanted to come out my whole life has finally been given expression. I don't consider that to be my last stop on my journey; I'm looking into less fundamentalist expressions of faith, such as mainline Protestantism. In the meantime, though, I consider myself to be undecided on whether or not there is a god, but with the exception of occasionally looking for one, I operate under the assumption there is none.

I decided to sign up for this because I need to discuss matters of faith as I work through these issues, but most people I know are not comfortable discussing these topics with me. Look forward to talking to y'all!

Hello all!

I was a believer for 35 years, but have been a non believer for the last 6/7 years. I have been participating in forums discussions for a few years now, and look forward to civil enlightening discussions.

Hi John and All,

I came across this great website under Christianity and have decided to join. I wish to take this opportunity to thank Otseng and all of the Staff here at Debating Christianity for their time and efforts given to the world commencing and continuing a fantastic Forum,

I am a Christian, have Jesus, God, The Holy Spirit and The Blessed Virgin Mary speak to my heart daily through heartfelt Prayer and wish to share Lovingly and Respectfully with others about some ways to "receive" Jesus into one's own heart and speaking to one's own heart while reading and posting and learning about others' lives and soul journeys.

I don't dictate just suggest things for those whom wish to "receive" Jesus into their hearts and to "receive" the Blessed Virgin Mary into their hearts.

I will follow all Rules John and Otseng. I had better read these prior to posting again.

Best wishes

Hello...the name is Jason. About myself: I grew up a nominal Christian, but knew nothing about the religion except from Hollywood movies about Jesus. God did not even enter my thoughts until near the end of high school. I was then agnostic until after high school when I became a Christian. Now I am studying for a degree in Philosophy of Religion. My member name comes from a Sufjan Stevens song entitled "The Owl and the Tanager." Looking forward to some good discussions.
