I apologize, for I am sure this is a hackneyed topic.
Now, though discrepancies and even contradictions in the Bible do not automatically threaten my beliefs (there are some which, if they could be shown, would make me abandon Christianity) still, the mention of "contradictions in Scripture" is made so often, I have forgotten which ones we have in mind.
Let's narrow this down to the N.T. since that is an explicitly Christian compilation.
What are they. Are there ways of reconciling them?

No, I think I explained myself clearly. I simply pointed out that your statement was not strictly speaking true. My conclusions were deduced and outlined in the last paragraph of my post. I do not believe I mentioned the word "biological" and hazard a guess such an expression is not in scripture.

In what way is Joseph "of Heli" if not as his son? It would make absolutely no sense to call Joseph "of Heli" when his only relation to Heli was that he married his daughter. He is not "of Heli"'s descent, not "of his" tribe, not "of his" anything. The only way for Luke to make any sense is if "of (name)" meant "son of (name)".JehovahsWitness wrote: My conclusions were deduced and outlined in the last paragraph of my post. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on that.

Since the Temple had been destroyed in 70 AD, what "public register" still existed?
QUESTION: What "public register" did Matthew copy from? Mathew wrote in about 80 AD.# QUESTION: Why does Matthew leave out some names that are contained in the listings of the other chroniclers?
Because to prove one’s genealogy it was not necessary to name every link in the line of descent. (compare Ezra 7:1-5 & 1 Chronicles 6:1-15) Matthew: He doubtless used the public register and copied from it, if not every name, the ones necessary to prove the descent of Jesus from Abraham and David

I'd still like to know how Jesus could have supported tithes to the Divine Caesar Augustus, and his son Tiberius.
Is it because both of their fathers were God?
Somebody explain to me please, how could Jesus advocate support of a divine monarchy/empire? Especially where derived its power from the divinity of Jove?
And, in Paul, the Bible advocates the support of that empire.
It seems it it the only worldly influence Jesus had... was to support Jovian tax collectors, taxes, and law. Supporting pagan law is something else that is sending me to a headspin, as well.
WHAT is the answer?

Remember, this is 2,000 some odd years ago. This is LONG before the discovery of genetics.
I'd also like to ask just how fallible this supposed public register was. Are we led to believe that there existed in ancient Israel a recording of the lines of descent of every single Jew? That it was nigh on impossible for someone to pass themselves off as being a descendant of XYZ?QUESTION: What "public register" did Matthew copy from? Mathew wrote in about 80 AD.

A cursory inspection into the validity of Israeli genealogies led to the discovery that they are as flawed as any other, perhaps worse; as "houses" rose and fell, people declare themselves as belonging to one or another, sometimes truly, sometimes falsely. But with most of this history being verbal and so on... I am not going to try to prove it - it was an easy 'Google.'
Besides, Jesus' human DNA was from Mary, the other half of his DNA floated and sparkled and eventually ascended into heaven.

Question: If Jesus didn't have a biological father, where would he have gotten his second set of human DNA? Or are you arguing that God has his own DNA?

I posted this subject on Science and religion a long time ago - if you are interested, that where it is.
Instead of talking about the historical claims of Israeli genealogy, and how poorly they actually are.
