Those heathen Canaanites sacrificed some children so we 'children of God' invaded, slaughtered everyone, killed ALL their children, and enjoyed smashing babies against rocks.
We are the good guys because we're God's chosen people and he told us to kill those people " and besides, they lived on land that we wanted; and they worshiped Baal.
Everyone should worship our God because he is the God of love and righteousness.

Psalm 137:9 Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.
How can this be justified or excused -- let alone be made to sound noble or heroic?

I have got to say, that the importance of whether or not there is a god, and what we spoke of in this OP; the consistencies of proponents of whether and what is the truth of that God: That I find it a little disappointing that you have boiled it down to an opinion.
It is clearly not opinion or perspective, for you to deflate the topic with the assertion is disappointing at best.
Clearly the Bible is inconsistent. So, instead of calling this an opinion... maybe I should contrast what should be done, as if by a scientist. A scientist would review the reality, and far from calling it an opinion, they'd say, "hmmm, that is interesting..." and investigate further, perhaps discovering a deeper truth.
Maybe if you dug a little deeper you would be able to justify your belief by uncovering the truth, rather than accusing it all of being reality's opinion... which, I suppose is a concession:
Because if reality has an opinion, it must be a God's opinion, right?
