Am I a Christian in atheist clothing?

I really am an atheist. I also think organized religion needs an enema or it will become a major contributor to the decline of our species.

Having said this, there are lots of religious traditions that I enjoy. There are also some rituals that are fun, social activities and I love some of the imagery. I am also a singer/songwriter who often uses Christian imagery in my lyrics. Some of my friends have ribbed me on a number of occasions telling me I would probably do well in the Christian folk-rock genre.
As an example, below is a song I wrote a few years back for a friend of mine who had just had a baby.

Am I a closet Christian? A poser? Confused? Or something else? :-k

-----------------
Tiny Baby Sleep Tonight
Words and Music by: Chris Smith

:-({|=
Tiny baby sleep tonight
And Angels will appear
Theyll bless you for eternity
To keep you from my fear

Blessed be the angels light
Blessed be our love
Tiny baby sleep tonight
With blessings from above

Tiny baby sleep tonight
Love in fathers eyes
Will hold you till the morning light
And once again to rise

Blessed be the angels light
Blessed be our love
Tiny baby sleep tonight
With blessings from above

Bridge
Theyll fly you on a snowflake to the moon
Theyll soothe your soul and sing a prayerful tune

Bridge (Guitar plays "Hush little baby dont you cry")

Tiny baby sleep tonight
And all the love I show
Will help you find your hearts delight
This is all I know

Blessed be the angels light
Blessed be our love
Tiny baby sleep tonight
With blessings from above
Tiny baby sleep tonight
With blessings from above

Paul was a pharasee. Matthew was a tax collector. The beginnings of the Christian church consisted of all sorts of people doing things that didn't agree with the doctrine. Hollywood recently has been producing a lot of films, both accurate and inaccruate concerning the Christian faith.

If God decides to use someone, I've noticed he isn't picky who. After all, if everyone refused to be with god, the rocks would cry out his praise.

We'll just call you rocky from now on. . . O:)
I like the song and will sing it to my new grandaughter when I see her next.I would have to generally agree about the enema, as a follower of the Lord Jesus I really dont address myself as Christian, not because of being ashamed of Jesus, but not agreeing with a lot of what goes on in the name of Christianity.

rebellion towards an obviously loving and kind and gracious and forgiving God
First off, He is no more real than the tooth fairy or Santa. (Heck I have more evidence of Santa and have actually seen him.) Second, He (male with a wee wee?) is not particularly kind or forgiving. It all depends upon which lines in the bible are most meaningful to you as to how nice God is.

Rebellion against God? Silly. It implies it is possible to rebel against an all powerful being. Silly.

Truth Cop is my 15 month old son at Yellowstone National park this summer wearing a Park Ranger Jr. outfit we bought him.
He is more in touch with the truth than any of us!

Yes, Truth Cop is painfully cute in person. Here he is off duty riding a zebra keeping the world safe for truth. As far as I am concerned this is the face of my Jesus:

I wouldnt go that far, if for no other reason than that its been around too long to "decline" anything. Also, there really are some good things about it, in spite of the bad.
Personally, I dont have a problem with organized religion in and of itself, and really dont see why so many do. I always felt that the problem was corrupt religion. I always think of the Nazis: No one ever looked at them and said "The problem here is organized government. If only we hadn't created governments, this war would never have happened." I think the same is the case with religion. It can do some great things, and once it gets that "enema", it should start doing more of them.

To get at your question, Id say that you dont have to like Christians to like what Christ had to say. Thats where Im at, most of the time.

Personally, from a completely selfish standpoint, I like the idea of you being confused. It gets awfully lonely being the only one. I would enjoy the company.

Back to reality, I think that religion will play a large role in mans downfall. It already has to a certain degree. The things man does in the name of God/Christ/Allah/whatever you want to call Him are horrendous. Historically, man has persecuted man based on their interpretation of scripture. And they continue to do so today. I don't think that religion will be what wipes out man, but I do think that it is the primary contributor to the continuing decline of morality today. Men think that because they beleive in Christ, they know what he wants and feel justified in trying to carry out His justice. Suicide bombers, televangelists, radicalists, etc..... They all think that man should follow the law as set forth in the bible. But they all forget that there is mans law and "Gods" law. While on earth, you are subject to mans law. If God exists, then when you enter his realm (heaven) then you are subject to His law. But man has no right to enforce Gods law nor do they have the right to impose it on others. But we all know, history repeats itself, regardless of how we try to prevent it, it still does.
What we do for ourselves dies with us,
What we do for others and the world remains
and is immortal.

And in the end, those in Christ win (forever)- Revelation 20, etc.

p.s. We will be at the polls and exercising our Constitutional rights to vote for whoever we believe are good people of faith to run our government. And there's nothing you or yours can ever do to stop that.

Jesus is Lord!
