Paradise on Earth

Post by onewithhim »

When I learned that the Bible speaks of a restored Garden of Eden and the restoration of mankind to the perfection and endless life that Adam forfeited, I was thrilled. Who doesn't want to keep living on this beautiful earth, with our loved ones, and being able to do all the things we love to do---endlessly?

If God said to you today, "When do you want to die?" would you say "now!!"? I don't think very many people would say that.

We CAN live forever here on Earth. The Bible tells us that we can.

Matthew 5:5
Psalm 37:9-11,29

Doesn't seem likely? Was Eve also inclined only towards obedience? Where in the texts does it indicate that these lusts are anything but natural tendencies which in my mind would be exactly the same as natural inclinations? Are you making up doctrine on the go here by juggling words?
I'm not juggling words. I'm going on what the scriptures say and what is reasonable.

"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD." (Isaiah 1:18, KJV)

"God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them....And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold it was very good." (Genesis 1:27,31, KJV)

"He is the Rock, his work is PERFECT." (Deuteronomy 32:4a, KJV)

So, with these texts in mind, we can know that Jehovah's work in creating everything, including humans, was perfect, and deemed it "very good." His human creations obviously had the innate tendency to do what was right, just as God and Christ would do, because they were made in God and Christ's image. The fact that they started out that way does not negate the idea that with their free will they could go either way....good or bad.

FREE WILL = the ability to choose what you want to do, good or bad.

[Replying to post 301 by onewithhim] Interesting? Does this mean that God does not have free will because he is unable to act contrary to his nature?

Interesting question. I don't know how to answer that, other than He has already chosen what He wants to be forever. He chooses to always be love and goodness and mercy.

This was Monday's scriptural thought for the day:

"About 6,000 years ago, God's will was being done perfectly on earth. That is why Jehovah could look upon the fine start he had given to mankind and say: 'It was very good.' (Genesis 1:31) Then Satan rebelled, and ever since, comparatively few humans have done God's will on earth. But today we are privileged to be alive at a time when about eight million Witnesses not only are praying for God's will to take place on earth but also are striving to live in harmony with that prayer [Matthew 6:10]. They do so by their way of life and by having a zealous share in the disciple-making work. Until the enemies of God's Kingdom are removed from the earth, we will continue to pray for God's will to be done. Then we will see God's will taking place in an even more complete way as billions are resurrected on a paradise earth. (John 5:28) What a wonderful time to be alive to welcome back our dead loved ones!"

Could anyone tell me why Jesus would tell of the importance of looking for God's will to be done ON EARTH, just as it is being done in heaven, if people were not going to be living on the earth in God's new system of things?

Matthew 6:9,10

I interpret it humnistically. What the mind can conceive of as "heaven," the mind should seek to achieve as "heaven" practically, and not just as in the imagination.

I don't quite get your meaning. Jesus clearly said that we were to pray for God's will to be done ON EARTH as it is in heaven. Doesn't this speak of the EARTH as a home for people that would actually be DOING God's will?

What of: Psalm 37:9-11,29
??

Who claims to know god's will for earth? Humans? So then humans should seek to enact their version of what they feel is "god's will" on earth. Radical Muslims terrorize. Christians proselytize. Buddhists meditate.

Who cares what god wants? I believe in nine. I serve them all as I see fit. Let's let humans try to bring about heaven and see what happens.

That would be fine unless there is a supreme God who intends to see His will be done on earth as it it is in heaven... in that case one would do well to care about his intentions
