Jehovah's Witnesses: Worship Jesus (Rev. 5:13)

Post by Faber »

Despite their claim that the Lord Jesus is a "god" in John 1:1 the Jehovah's Witnesses affirm that the worship Mary rendered in Revelation 5:13 was to "no other god" and yet the Lord Jesus received the same level of worship in equality with Jehovah.
The Watchtower: However, the most important lesson we learn from Mary is that she, along with all other faithful servants of God, worships Jehovah and no other god. Mary, along with Christs other corulers in heaven, raises her voice to proclaim: To the One sitting on the throne [Jehovah God] and to the Lamb [Jesus Christ] be the blessing and the honor and the glory and the might forever and ever."Revelation 5:13; 19:10 (Marys Role in Gods Purpose, January 1, 2009).

Why do Jehovah's Witnesses claim that the Lord Jesus is not God when He receives the same level of supreme worship as the Father?

Jehovah's Witnesses do NOT render the same level of supreme worship to Jesus as to the Father (JEHOVAH). Indeed we do not worship Jesus at all.

Prayers and worship are directed uniquely to Jehovah God who Jehovah's Witness as being the unique Creator and source of all life. They believe Jesus to be a created being that at one time did not even exist. Jehovah's Witnesses believe Jesus always has been and always will be subordinate to his father Jehovah (YHWH).

Does the Watchtower, January 1st 2001 not say that Jesus receives the "same level of worship in equality with Jehovah"?

No it does not. The Watchtower of January 1st, 2001 page 10 states the following:
"Mary, along with Christs other corulers in heaven, raises her voice to proclaim: To the One sitting on the throne [Jehovah God] and to the Lamb [Jesus Christ] be the blessing and the honor and the glory and the might forever and ever."Revelation 5:13; 19:10."

The observant reader notice it does NOT say say that "The One sitting on the throne [Jehovah God] andthe Lamb [Jesus Christ] are given "the the same level of" blessing and the honor and the glory and the might.

CONCLUSION: Since the words "the same level of..." are neither stated nor suggested in the commentary I do believe we have what is commonly called a "strawman argument".

The same worship rendered unto the Father in Revelation 5:13 is equally rendered unto the Lord Jesus.

"...and to the Lamb."

Nowhere does the text even hint that Jesus is receiving anything less than the worship that the Father receives.

They possibly see that in a monotheistic religion Jesus cannot be a second God? The dream sequence from Revelation, where people are singing hymns of praise to God on a throne, is open to anyone's interpretation.
