Who told Jesus what to say on the Sermon on the mount

So if Jesus made it up himself then it is not from God but I don't recall a verse where God told Jesus what to say? What is the other possibility?
Proverbs 18:17 The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.

Wouldn't this be the same as asking who told Joel Osteen what to say in his sermons?

I mean, why should we think that Jesus wasn't just preaching his own personal views and beliefs like any other preacher?

Is there anything in the Sermon on the mount that can be shown to be both true, and information that no moral man could have known?

If so, I would be interested to hear what that was.

If not, then why should we think that Jesus was doing anything different from someone like Joel Osteen (i.e. just preaching his own personal beliefs and opinions)?

Maybe through a process of elimination we can get some idea , Jesus didn't have a Rabbi so it wasn't an older Rabbi.

Divine Insight asked:

RESPONSE: Because the report was written 40 to 50 years after the fact by a non-witness?

The bible seems to suggest that God is always telling or at least guiding Jesus in what to say.

John 12:49
For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken.

Some possibilities:

1 Jesus, as a wandering cynic-philosopher, invented the Sermon based on his observation and critique of his surrounding culture.

2 Jesus experienced one or several Enlightenment episodes and issued the Sermon from his Enlightened awareness.

3 The heavenly Son of Man, Logos, Holy Spirit and/or celestial Christ descended on Jesus and guided his teaching.

4 Jesus himself was the preexistent form of Being listed above and issued the Sermon as a divine figure.

Maybe further studying of the Bible would help. Jesus himself stated more than once that God told him what to say.

"I have not spoken out of my own impulse, but the Father himself who sent me has given me a commandment as to what to tell and what to speak....Therefore, the things I speak, just as the Father has told me, so I speak." (John 12:49,50)

"The word that you are hearing is not mine, but belongs to the Father who sent me." (John 14:24)

"[To the Father] The sayings that you gave me I have given to them..." (John 17:8)

So we can be quite certain that God (the Father/Jehovah) told Jesus what to say when he gave his Sermon on the Mount.

Yes I had those verses in mind. I have no doubt the Son and the Father are one.

I was just thinking how Jesus just gets up there and preaches it. Literally changing the nature of human reality and on what basis or authority. Apart from Moses does any other prophet bring a new covenant?

You know back in the day when the king sent their son abroad the son's word was the king's word. There was no difference.

What do you mean by "the Son and the Father are one"? I believe that means that they are united in thought, that they are in agreement. Is that what you mean?

I think you are hinting at the Holy Spirit, which is God's spirit. "the Son can only do as the Father instructed."
