If this story is true the church members are a bunch of evil psychos who should be prosecuted and the church closed.

What's the debate question? i.e. Can you pray away gay?

Given that prayer has been shown to have no observable effect other than perhaps making the person doing the praying feel better, "praying away gay" is obviously ineffective. If it were effective, there would be no gay people.

In fact, if God doesn't want people to be gay, perhaps he should just wave his magic wand and do it himself. Why the need for anyone to petition God to do what he wants to be done? Is he a procrastinator or something?

Homosexual activity is condemned in the bible and while someone may always have to struggle with such urges they can break free from a homosexual lifestyle and become Christians and still lead happy and productive lives. It happened in bible times and it happens today.

Of course you can't pray to have someone 'cured' because they are gay. It is not an illness there is nothing wrong with being gay, one should be comfortable in the skin one is in. It is anti-gay bigots who the ones who are sick in the head.

So people that respect the bible and believe it is the Word of God do not engage it. One cannot be one of Jehovah's Witnesses for example, live an openly gay lifestyle as our religion is based on the bible.

A person can live with same sex attraction and be a Christian but the bible is clear, one cannot be an unrepentant fornicator (whether it is same sex or heterosexual activity) and be part of the true Christian congregation. We dont imposse our beliefs on others but we reserve the same right to voice them as anyone else.

One often needs to turn to one's Old Testament to justify one's bigotry.

One's Old Testament also forbids bacon cheeseburgers.

One may then reveal oneself as a hypocrite as well as a bigot.
