So if the Bible claims, without any reason to believe otherwise from its own internal consistency, that the Earth was created sometime after 8000 BCE, then did the Egyptians, Sumerians, etc., watch God create everything?
How come they didn’t record it?

If anyone thinks that the Bible makes any statement about the year of formation of the Earth, kindly provide a citation. Assuming Earth's age from tales about how long people lived (several supposedly many hundreds of years), is a fool's errand.
Is that a very wordy way of saying no?

Post #12Bible doesn’t directly give that age, but if we assume it is the correct age, then we could also think those nations didn’t exist then. Impossible to prove that they existed at that time.Willum wrote: So if the Bible claims, without any reason to believe otherwise from its own internal consistency, that the Earth was created sometime after 8000 BCE, then did the Egyptians, Sumerians, etc., watch God create everything?

Post #13Well perhaps you growing up and beginning to realize things is the problem... "knowing", something that is false, is truly the fall of being brainwashed...SallyF wrote:And I was told in Sunday school …Tart wrote:I suppose you can believe that, when history was a mystery. The age of myth.Tcg wrote:Perhaps, but these aren't the earliest records left by humans. Here is an example of the paintings found in the Lascaux Cave in France:Tart wrote:
Human history began about 6,000 years ago with proto-writing, in and around lower Mesopotamia?
The earliest paintings from the Lascaux Cave are estimated to be around 17,000 years old. These are far from the oldest cave paintings however:Humans have left art that is clearly much older than 6,000 years.
- The oldest known cave paintings are more than 44,000 years old (art of the Upper Paleolithic), found in both the Franco-Cantabrian region in western Europe, and in the caves in the district of Maros (Sulawesi, Indonesia). The oldest type of cave paintings are hand stencils and simple geometric shapes; the oldest undisputed examples of figurative cave paintings are somewhat younger, close to 35,000 years old.

History itself has been defined as "History is the study of the human past as it is described in the written documents left by human beings."
Before of which time is referred to the time of mythology, or something like that. So i have read... Though perhaps we can trust a humans eye, to date such things as far back.. Or an atom's isotope, of which I assume to exist, for people have told me so. Or the age of a rock, that people have theorized about. So im told
When I grew up a bit ...
I began to realise that my faith community believed in make-believe.
Some folks STILL can't let it go.
That's how brainwashing works ...
In my view ...
And experience.

Post #15Which would of course be silly, as there are multiple different confirming records.1213 wrote:Bible doesn’t directly give that age, but if we assume it is the correct age, then we could also think those nations didn’t exist then. We have history documenting many nations.
We have archeology documenting many nations.
Some cultures even had census.
We have other cultures documenting wars and thing with other peoples and cultures...
I am a bit amazed by the question.

It is not unknown for some in debate to challenge evidence of the Earth's spheroidal shape or its orbital motion. Perhaps they slept through grade school science class -- or they simply cannot or will not process new information.
When I taught Earth science at university freshman level there were occasional students who just refused to accept such basic information that has been verified thousands of times worldwide. Verified -- not just opinion. "How can you be so sure?"
Going over it slowly and repeatedly might reach some traditionalists -- but not all (and university students should represent some of the most capable learners). Imagine the people who slept through public school science classes and haven't read a book since). Note: Pew Research indicates that 44% of US adults with high school or less have not read a book in the past year.
