Humpty Dumpty

Post by Faber »

"When I use a word it means just what I choose it to mean" (Humpty Dumpty in 'Through the Looking Glass' by Lewis Carroll).

Those who deny the Trinity often employ the same rational as Humpty Dumpty in their approach to defining the words of the Bible. Since the proper definitions refute their doctrine they resort to attacking the meanings of the biblical words as found in the lexicons.
What they offer is simply their opinion of what they think the words ought to mean in accordance with their beliefs.
"The Bible is inspired not the lexicons" is a claim so often made. What is ignored is that the words of the Bible are to be properly defined otherwise like Humpty Dumpty words can simply mean anything we want them to. Communication will inevitably break down.

Well considering that it is your claim that "through baptism...those who are baptized become the possession of and come under the dedicated protection of the one whose name they bear", unless you can demonstrate why BDAG has some sort of absolute authority, your claim is baseless and merely the opinion whoever or whatever BDAG is.

So once again you've run out of arguments and so you resort to calling your opponent's position "a joke". Come back to me when you have an actual argument, ok? Enjoy your day

You referenced BDAG. It's your burden of proof to demonstrate why BDAG holds any kind of absolute authority.

You used the word "holds."
You must prove that it is used correctly in the sentence you provided otherwise it is meaningless.

Have fun.

Support your use of the word. Define it and tell why it is properly placed in your sentence.

You don't approve of the lexicons I cite so I am not going to accept how you employ the words you use.

Two can play this game of constantly asking for proof even though sources have been given.

Your turn.
