What is the Biblical view of hell?

Divine Insight wrote: In fact, I think this is why Christianity invented eternal punishment in hell. They started to realize that just plain dying wouldn't be compelling. So instead they invented the concept of "Everlasting Punishment" for those who refuse to comply.
Questions for debate:
What is the Biblical view of hell?
What concepts do we have of hell that are not in the Bible?

Hurt?

I'm free -- and it's fantastic!

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)

I pray that you get there some day!

As that "prophet" Stuart Smalley said, "Denial ain't just a river in Egypt." :)

I'm glad that you think so, but like many other posters here, what you're feeling belongs more in the category what Paul says in 1 Timothy 4:3, that many folks these days have itching ears and... suit their own passions.

Well you know, some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers. (Garth Brooks [not a prophet, but sometimes right]) :D

Grace and peace to you.

If you are a Christian, you will have eternal life, whether or not you believe the immortal soul myth that man is born with immortality.

However, you will be asked some embarrassing questions when you meet God face to face!

How could you believe that God, who created everything, would create a system whereby even one individual would suffer everlasting torment.

What part of "God is love" did you not understand?

Here is your Savior who died that you might have eternal life. Yet, you are convinced by other men that you are born with eternal life!

Here is your Savior who taught nonviolence. Turn the other cheek, love your enemies, do good to them that hurt you. Yet, others convince you that His plan is for untold masses of humanity to suffer never ending torment!

If this was in His plan, why did He not mention it in detail when He was a human on the earth?

I say you learned these false beliefs from other men as these beliefs are not found in the scriptures.

No, I cannot!

I am a Christian and as such I must support what God inspired to be written in the scriptures.

If God designed a system to consciously torment humans day and night for ever and ever as you have proposed, then how can you convince anyone that "God is Love?"

It's an oxymoron! If God is Love, then He did not design such a system.

Christians who need a God to provide everlasting torment for nonbelievers, need that theology as a fear tactic.

Actually, it drives more people away from God, than it saves.

I still suggest that you need to be preparing your explanation.

You're gonna need it!
