Is there a word for when one creature convinces another creature to not do something in its evolutionary interest?
Like when a cuckoo bird takes over a nest and the other bird feeds it thinking it is feeding its children?
Or more to my point, if I can convince someone they are gay or should not have children because of the planet or there is no God - what would be the word for that?

Proverbs 18:17 The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.

Post #12I don't think majority Christian thinking's evolved it much beyond the superstitious fears and hatreds of old, if that's what ya mean.Wootah wrote: ↑Sat Jul 02, 2022 7:34 am [Replying to JoeyKnothead in post #10]
Seems like I believe in evolution more than you.
As to the OP, I note professionals tend to consider homosexuals to be otherwise normal folk.
To say folks are trying to convince people to be gay has me thinking you fear it'll happen to you.

I would say it's a hijack of their biological imperative. For example, this cicada has been hijacked by this fungus.

In human affairs the sources of success are ever to be found in the fountains of quick resolve and swift stroke; and it seems to be a law, inflexible and inexorable, that he who will not risk cannot win.

Re: evolutionary attack
Post #19Because fixing it in the gaze instead of looking away does something primal to our sense of fear to ameliorate it slightly. We don't want to look away. We want to see it. These things are examples of creatures that can only kill you if you look away. It comes from a primal place. Probably tigers. Tigers are less likely to attack if you look at them.
And if a domestic cat is ever hiding, looking to jump out at you, point at the cat and say, "I see you!" and he can't attack. Random things learned from growing up in the jungle.

Exactly.
We are understanding that the tiger [nature] is intelligent, and acknowledging this understanding with the help of our own intelligence...
