Because of how the word has been bandied about here I'm going to need a definition. Whatcha got?

.
Do you have an arm?
Do you have a leg?
Do you have a brain?
Do you have a mind?
Do you have a soul?
This is sooo sad, but so be it.

Energy is not a substance. A substance is a particular kind of matter.
sridatta wrote: Wed Oct 26, 2022 10:34 pm If you know this point, you will know that every item of this creation is just basically inert energy only. Even the non-inert awareness is also basically inert energy only because awareness is a specific work form of inert energy (produced from digested food) generated in the functioning nervous system.
If you think you know this point you are already starting off on the wrong foot. Awareness is not a form of energy and is certainly not directly related to the digestion of food.

Somewhat garbled. Neurons are specialised cells that transmit nerve impulses. How you get to awareness being a form of work beats me.
sridatta wrote: Wed Oct 26, 2022 10:34 pm By knowing that the basic material of this world is inert energy only, you will know that every item of this world is a form of inert energy only.
Talk about circular. Nevertheless, the material of this world is matter, not energy.

The rest appears to me to be nothing more than word salad without any support of the claims being made.

I believe I am a soul rather than have (possess) a soul.

To have a soul implies I am the body, which I do not believe.

I do not think it is difficult to define the soul as something that we can conceive of. It is just that many do not believe in anything other than the physical world.

I define soul as the metaphysical, rational being.

Because 5 questions do not answer the question asked. The question asked for a definition of the word "soul." Absent that, your question is meaningless.

This man has soul or rather had soul, he was after all the godfather of soul, but that doesn't mean he has a soul:

My questions answer effectively and show how fundamental a soul is.

I think it is a mixture of personality self identifying with the human form and the transition from understanding oneself as just the form, to understanding oneself as the soul - the personality becoming more aware of what it was intended to become...to serve as both a soul and soul carrier...

I’m left assuming that the OP regards a ‘soul’ as a fundamental part of a person (on the same level as a leg), although it is of course possible to live without any legs. Perhaps then, losing a soul is similar.

Do you take a dualist view of ‘body and soul’, then? Here’s some ideas about what that might mean:

Are you closer to Plato or Aquinas here?

I guess. I think we are a trinity of mind, body and soul. I would say the mind is your thoughts, the body is your physical and the soul is your spiritual dimension.

I think people think it is easy to say I don't have a soul, less easy to say they don't have a mind and harder still to say they don't have a body. But as you note, we can cut (a lot of) bits off the body. It really is much harder than people admit to know which aspect of ourselves is more or less real once you start denying some aspect of it.

I don't think atheists realise how much they lose when they have 'one less God than me'.
