Namaskaram...

I think we are in fantasyland when the Bible say a man - Noah - lived for 950 years. Why do anybody think it is not just fantasy? Maybe a muslim can help? Do you buy this solution...

You need to get rid of the religious mumbo jumbo to understand the Bible. You are bringing layers to it and then trying to read it.

What I mean by religious mumbo jumbo is all the baggage we bring to a text. I explained that text and how it applies to reality.

I went over and beyond, explaining a few other concepts such a sin and grace which triggered Transponder but not you because he appears to be from a Western mindset.

Maybe we should discuss reincarnation and see if I can help you with that?

Bible and Reality, indeed, any religion vs Reality. Because reality looks like we struggle through ;life, and then die. What's the sense in that? How is that fair? We feel 'there has to be 'something more'.

Hard truths vs. comfortable lies. The hard truth (in the skeptical materialist view) is that just because the evolved instinct of empathy and reciprocity gives us a sense of justice, that does not mean that nature owes us anything. We invent various religions to tell ourselves we are going to be given what we deserve (including those who we dislike getting what they deserve 8-) ) if not in this life, then the next.

Name your own. Reincarnation has always had a powerful appeal. It is not part of Abrahamic Dogma, but I have seen a couple of attempts to wangle reincarnation (or rebirth - I see no practical difference) out of Bibletext. Odd that the religious who keep banging on about how terrible about this life is proffer as a solution to this terrible existence - another helping of it.

The hard truth of skeptical materialism is that you evolved to survive and not to know the truth.

You will magically assert that knowing the truth is important to survival. But it isn't.

I think if you aren't crippled by depression you have a religion maintaining your self.

:D On the contrary - we evolved with mental equipment to survive, not to 'know the truth'. Which sorta tells us that our maker didn't design us to be vouchsafed transcendental knowledge, did it?

cue 'Only the Faithful and Enlightened can expect to receive the Truth, all different flavors.

On my former board, says he reaching for the tobacco jar, one of the earliest discussion was a version of Plantinga's evolved for truth apologetic (which sorta unseats your assertion, don't it?) and it ended up with myself and 'Matrix' (apologist) concluding that humung beans evolved with survival mechanisms but which were not evolved to tell us truth. Sure, we could tell a bison from a lion as that helps us to get food and escape becoming food, but at night, we hear a rustling sound or see a moving shadow and the instinctive fear of the dark and unknown kicks in and we belt off - we do not Investigate. That comes with another instinct - curiosity. We want to know and we worked out ways of eliminating error and arriving at the truth, so far as possible, and we may even risk our lives in research and exploration. That is what science, logic and reason hath done ffor us, and evolution hath not, much less a god whose book seems to warn against knowledge and wisdom because that stuff gets in the way of Faith.

God created mortals to live forever. Adam and Eves sin brought death into this world. Those mortals back then were much closer to perfection than nowadays.

That has never been the case, according to history and archaeology - the Evidence. When has human beings ever been close to 'Perfection'? Outside of the Bible? Which is why the Bible has little to do with reality.

What do you mean by mortals? And do you think 930 years is closer to perfection? Nothing is close to eternal life/living forever. Not 930 years. Not 100.000 years. Not 1.000.000.000 years. But I understand what you mean. 930 years is longer than 120 years. Did God get it right...

Do you bye this...

Why did Moses only live 120 years? Has it something to do with what God said about humans lifespan? I think so. It is not a coincidence.

If you want to talk about Adam and Eve and the story...

Sad you feel like that. God created Adam and Eve to live forever providing they didnt eat of the tree of knowledge of good and bad. Dont forget there was a tree of life as well. It must be the source of sustaining ones life forever. That has been hidden from Mortals until Gods kingdom comes and takes full control sometime after Rev 19:11. That event brings Gods kingdom rule into full control.-- Rev 22:1-2
