Yes, And? What are you saying? How does this relate to anything?dadman wrote:To put it into laymans terms the amount of information in human DNA is roughly equivalent to 12 sets of The Encyclopaedia Britannica ..Bob: "You can't propose absurd theories which have been disproved,

So? What point are you trying to make? Be specific.dadman wrote:Let's first consider some of the characteristics of this genetic 'language.' .....
Prove you wrong about what? You haven't made any affirmative statements.dadman wrote: . . . Hey Bob . . . prove me wrong

Wait no longer, I am here.dadman wrote:How is this "an Atheist's Kryptonite"?
. . . . Is your phonebook (however thick it might be) by design or by chance . . . PS: I'm waiting for Bob
Let's cut to the chase shall we? If you are stating that the complexity of DNA and the theory of evolution is simply too complicated to be true, therefor god did it. Then it is up to you to prove another theory. Not by attempting to discredit established science, but by presenting a theory with evidence for whatever your alternative is.
Since you have made no affirmative statements, it's only my assumption that it is what I have assumed above. If not, please state your case, and provide evidence to support it.
I was out on the town last night, I hope it was worth the wait.

At first they didn't have phone books or phone number, just rings from turning a crank.dead man wrote:To put it into laymans terms the amount of information in human DNA is roughly equivalent to 12 sets of The Encyclopaedia Britannica ..Bob: "You can't propose absurd theories which have been disproved,

At the same time this immense amount of information is contained in a space that is only 2 millionth of a millimeter thick . . .
Quoting molecular biologist Michael Denton, Seiglie explains that a teaspoon of DNA,
could contain all the information needed to build the proteins for all the species of organisms that have ever lived on the earth,
and there would still be enough room left for all the information in every book ever written."
===============
Let's first consider some of the characteristics of this genetic 'language.'
For it to be rightly called a language, it must contain the following elements:
__ an alphabet or coding system,
__ correct spelling,
__ grammar (a proper arrangement of the words),
__ meaning (semantics) and an intended purpose.
Scientists have found the genetic code has all of these key elements.
"The coding regions of DNA," explains Dr. Stephen Meyer ..
"have exactly the same relevant properties as a computer code or language."
. . . . Hey Bob . . . prove me wrong
The first phone books were rather small if they had any at all and phone numbers increased.
The first phone book might have been so small it could be tore in half by a child.
Our DNA while it may seem to contain a lot of information it isn't like a shelf of books, the information was build on over millions of years.
Each time you remember something you change the memory which is like changing many of the books on the shelf with one word change.

1. Phone books don't replicate themselves. DNA does.dadman wrote:How is this "an Atheist's Kryptonite"?

2. No one is saying that the DNA of modern species formed only by chance. There was a lot of design involved, but it was the design of natural selection operating over vast time scales.
3. If we were really designed by some type of intelligent being we would be much better designed than we are. For example:

Other examples include the way we give birth to children, the use of the same organs for reproduction and waste elimination, the appendix, the way we are poorly designed to walk upright, DNA information for a tail that is all there but is switched off, the way we eat and breath through the same tube, I could go on and on. None of this looks intelligent to me. All of it can be explained by natural selection.

Post #16CODE IS DEFINED as communication between an encoder (a writer or speaker) and a decoder (a reader or listener) using agreed upon symbols . . . DNA's definition as a LITERAL CODE (and not a figurative one) is nearly universal in the entire body of biological literature since the 1960's . . .
DNA code has much in common with human language and computer languages . . . DNA transcription is an encoding / decoding mechanism isomorphic with Claude Shannon's 1948 model: The sequence of base pairs is encoded into messenger RNA which is decoded into proteins .. Genetic information passes from DNA to an RNA copy and then is READ in the cell by the the ribosome which makes a protein molecule based on the genetic information encoded in DNA. This is the central tenet of molecular biology . . . Information theory terms and ideas applied to DNA are not metaphorical .. but in fact quite literal in every way . . . In other words,
the information theory argument for design is not based on analogy at all ..
It is direct application of mathematics to DNA, which by definition is a code.
Let's say I take a pen and write on a board ..
"Comrade Bob is a big-ole fat water-head"
I turn the board around to show Mr. Comrade Bob what I have written . . . okay ??
___ should Comrade Bob be flattered ? ..
___ should Comrade Bob be edified ? ..
___ should he be challenged ?? ..
___ or should he be offended ?? ..
Based on our understanding of "agreed" symbols / numbers and letters
I've used 34 ( a possible combination of 26 ) letters ..
6 spaces and 2 dashes . . . correct ??
Comrade Bob should be able to understand and interpret the communication I have presented ..
am I not correct ??

DNA is coded language = an Atheist's Kryptonite .. trailer
The documentary film "Expelled" is presented by US Actor Ben Stein and makes the case that scientists who question
Darwinian orthodoxy and support Intelligent Design are being "expelled" from academia ..
As the UK edition of the DVD is released we ask "Is freedom of thought at stake or is Intelligent Design
out of bounds when it comes to biological science?"

This analogy is only valid if there is an intelligent coder. To make your case, you must show evidence of this coder. A specific alternate DNA coder, other than the known DNA coder of evolution. Without evidence of this intelligent coder, your hypothesis is childish word-play.dadman wrote:CODE IS DEFINED as communication between an encoder (a writer or speaker) and a decoder (a reader or listener) . . .

I am now 37 minutes into the full movie, and it is already clear that the producers of this film have some very totally wrong ideas about what evolution actually is. They obviously did not do their homework. As to what really happened with the "expelled" people, this will take some time to research.dadman wrote:E X P E L L E D: No Intelligence Allowed

I plan on writing a full review of this movie on this thread in a couple of days or so, depending on how long it takes to do the research.

At 44 min through the film it also becomes very clear that they don't understand how science operates, either. Where do they get this stuff?
There are so many things wrong with what they are saying I don't know where to begin, and I'm not even halfway through yet.
