why did humanity create god?

Why did man create the concept of God and religion? From the remote islands in pacific to all major continents every culture, every man has always known about god.Like the concept of family, the concept of god is also universal.
what made so many cultures to create the concept of God?what was the basic motive? What was the purpose? Was it fear of the unknown?

Do we invent the world we see too? If I stub my toe on a rock, should I ask, " how much has our experiences, knowledge and imagination contributed to our image of [pain] which would be our creation?"
What is our creation and what is not, is the question. I would say all of those contribute to your pain. Show me where the pain is out side those factors.

I don't think memes are widely regarded as a scientific belief. At best a hypothesis, really just an interesting idea at the moment.

Now, If you'd said the same thing about Creation 'Science', or Intelligent Design as it's now known, ... ;)

I don't think that man created God. He has certainly created a concept of God from the workings of his intellect, and this has led to religion. But God is not a concept, it is an energy. Before man became self conscious and the intellect began to develop, God was the only reality, manifest as the existence of the natural world. At that time of course, there were no self conscious animals (humans) with the ability to reflect upon this (God's) nature. As modern thinking man began to emerge with the ability to reflect and think, he slowly began to develop concepts, theories and the like about everything, including of course the causal energy behind it all - God. Its the best he could do, and still is until he comes to know God, which is something beyond the capacity of the intellect.

So I would say that the motive and purpose behind the creation of God concepts was simply a function of the developing mind and its need to understand. Also, as the myths of all cultures suggest, there were in the early days beings with great (supernatural) powers. and this gave rise to concepts and beliefs about creation, life and death. Now I know that a lot of readers are going to have a hard time swallowing that one, but again it is quite logical and perhaps a subject for discussion in another thread. These beings, channelling and acting directly from the source - God - had enormous influence in their times, and the people around them could sense the truth and integrity of their expression. Such beings were the founders of religion, but with their passing from this earthly plane, the people were left only with inspiration at best, and mostly just stories, beliefs and more concepts about what on earth we are all doing here.

People created God to see him as their "Ultimate Person",

"someone" to long for,

"someone" to live for and with,

"someone" who is their role model in life ethically, mentally, moraly, and intellectually,

"someone" to cry for when frightened or sad,

"someone" to pray for to make their wishes come true,

"someone" to be with when lonely,

"someone" to depend on in time of need,

"someone" to thank in time of happiness,

"someone" to the need of protection when in danger,

or even "someone" to blame when disaster takes place.

and most importantly, "someone" to literally throw at everything they don't understand. In other words, everytime religious people don't understand or are incapable of explaining something, they say to themselves:

"God Almighty, you must have done this, because there is no way that I, a human being, the smartest of animals, is unable to explain that thing ! God must have done this, he just must have.... yes.... he must have !!"

Well face the facts, stupid, it's only a matter of time till science explains it, like it has always done !!!

And if everyone (especially religious people ) on the face of the planet waits till science discovers new things, there will be no scientists to discover them. Wake up people !!!
