Does anyone actually believe the story of Noah's Ark?
Post #1I know a bunch of Christians, and so many of them believe that Noah's Ark is a myth. Basically just a story to teach morals and lessons. I personally see a lot of things wrong with the story of the flood. So I was wondering, if anyone believes the story of Noah's Ark, and the world flood, to be the truth?

Certainly. For a comparison, London Zoo has about 750 species of animals and 75 personnel to look after the approx 7 tons of poop a day. That works out to about 200 lbs a day of poop for each person. Noah and his family would have had only about half the amount of species (bigger than a sheep).
To put things in perspective, London Zoo (now Whipsnade Wild Park) has about Ten elephants; according to spokesmen from South Carolina's Riverbanks zoo, their four elephants produce 75% of their poop) Noah would have had only two of each kind; some of which may not have been fully grown. So we also take into account that Noah would have had many less individual animals than say, London Zoo, a fair estimate would be Noah and his family would have had to deal with about 2 tons a day, probably less. That's about 4000lbs of poop a day. That sounds like a lot but it would have only meant that each person would have had to deal with about 350lbs a day*
(*120lbs is about the weight of an average size woman, how long would it take for a man to pick up a sack the weight of a woman and throw it out of a window? Even if only the four men did all the heavy lifting, it wouldn't take an excessive amount of time)
If a little thought was put into the design of the boat (for example the possiblility of slanting the floors up and hosing them down and out an opening - the ark had windows/openings) then dealing with the poop was more than possible.

Having an "opening" in the floor of the bottom deck would be known in common parlance as a "hole." A hole in the bottom of a boat would have the opposite effect of letting water flow out.

I've had similar convos with believers of this and other claims. Their last resort was always "well, if God wanted it done, it was done."
There's little to no reasoning with people when they need to believe in something.
