Catholic child sexual abuse worse than previously known

"Reckoning

An NBC Bay Area investigation into a new wave of lawsuits accusing Catholic clergy of sexually abusing children
By Candice Nguyen, Michael Bott and Alex Bozovic

The Catholic church is once again being buried in child sex abuse accusations across California. More than 4,000 people are suing Catholic institutions across the state, enabled by a recent law that opened a window for survivors to sue their alleged abusers, no matter how far back their accusations go. Hundreds of Northern California priests are being accused for the first time, including some still working in churches and schools today. NBC Bay Areas Investigative Unit dug through the new claims, which suggest the decades-long scandal could go far deeper than the public previously knew."

Why would anyone who cares about children continue to support this institution?

To be clear: Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods.

I must assume that knowing is better than not knowing, venturing than not venturing; and that magic and illusion, however rich, however alluring, ultimately weaken the human spirit.

If it turns out that the abuse is still going on and is being covered up, the outrage will be bigger than before.
Agreed. But as that hasn't happened as of yet, I'm not sure what your point is.
The point is - and it wasn't my point - that the OP apparently refers back to the old abuse, which we are supposed to pass over and say the Church is all clean and decent now. There is no point is digging up old scandals.

I'm also saying, If, if, it turns out that abuse is still going on, specifically in the Catholic church, and is still being covered up, the outrage will be twice as much. But sure, that hasn't been claimed - not that I have heard, anyway.
