Hi everyone,
I have some very interesting readings by a certain Gerrard Winstanley, very hard to find, out of print, yet I don't know if they are still under copyright.
Can I discuss his writings here? Under what limitations?
Thanks..!
Blessings,
brian

A google search has a couple of his readings online at http://www.marxists.org/reference/archi ... /index.htm
“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?

The reason I ask is this:
Yes, his works were written around 1648-9. My grandfather gave me a book with some of his main spiritual works (not the ones on the site you mentioned). This book was a compliation done by, I think, Oxford Press, back in 1940's. Then reprinted by Russell & Russell in the 1960's. So are they still copyrighted?
Also, three eariler works of his I found only at the British Library, they photocopied for me, and told me that "they have the copyrights." Is this possible?
Thanks for clarifying. I'd LOVE to share his thoughts here!

brian

So are you saying that, since I live in Italy, I should consult Italian copyright laws, which may permit me to post these writings without any problems, even if English/American laws are different?
Blessings,
brian

Re: Book discussions
Post #7Well, the server being used is based in the U.S... so I would think that U.S. laws would be the most important, since it is Ostenger that would potentially get snagged for copyright violations.ahigherway wrote:Hi goat!Goat wrote:They might have the copyrights to the compilation and/or translation.. but british copyright laws and us copyright laws are differentahigherway wrote:Are you absolutely sure?Goat wrote:Since he died in 1676, his writings are no longer copyrighted.ahigherway wrote:Hi everyone,

As long as you don't post the whole thing, but only subsections of it, and give proper citations, I don't see any problem.. the fair use laws are in force.

Ok. I'll give it a shot.
I won't be citing the whole book, since it is a compilation of short works. How much of one short work can be quoted?
Blessings,
brian

The laws are vague.. but since I bet a lot of it is online, look and do a few paragaaphs and point to a source if possible.ahigherway wrote:Ok. I'll give it a shot.
