Atheists Doing Good Works

Post by LyricalReckoner »

I’ve heard about school kids doing good in the world, like sending money to people who lost everything because of an earthquake or a tidal wave. I’ve heard of churches doing things like that, and I’ve heard of large, Christian organizations like the Salvation Army doing such things. But I’ve never heard of an atheist group doing good in the world. Never.

Have you?

It 's true I have not heard of a single athetist organisation giving money to charity. Not one.

But then I have not heard of a single atheist organisation, not one.

Maybe that is you answer?

I know of many atheists who contribute to charity. They do not seek out "Atheist" organizations to do so but do tend to favour "secular" organizations over explicitly religious ones.
UNICEF over World Vision for instance.

Bill Gates is a prime example. Probably one of the more philanthropic people around...and an atheist.

And then there is Warren Buffett, - Atheist, Paul Allen - Atheist and Steven Ballmer - Atheist

Exactly - Atheists are individuals, not organisations.

I am an atheist but do regular charity work for cancer charities
