Better alternatives?

Last two versions of MSWORD (with extensions docx), are very different from earlier versions (with extensions doc). One of the changes is the new interface. I would vote against the new interface, if we had a referendum about it.

Why? I would argue that the 2003 version was already a very good tool; we became very familiar with it. Learning the new interface, as in the 2010 version, is a burden not worth accepting. What is gained is negligible in comparison with what was lost. How would you vote, and why?

By the way, it is not their word processor only. The same is true for Excel. Fortunately, there are good alternative--free programs from google. Go to your browser and find them. One is called Google Docs and another is called Google Spreadsheets. There is also Google Presentations; it is like power Point. You do not have to download any software; the only tool needed to use these programs is a browser.

And how can I resist mentioning Google Sites? I was so impressed that I created a short tutorial for it.

Read the first four pages; the next two pages are notes for myself.
