Churches of Christ

Post by SEMyers »

Greetings

I'd like to see a new sub-forum entitled "Churches of Christ." Half my family are members of the Churches of Christ. The other half are variants of Baptist. My wife is the former - I'm the latter.

Hello and welcome. We have essentially two types of forums here: debate and discussion. The debate forums are where questions for debate are debated. They are
  • Christianity and Apologetics; Argue for and against Christianity
  • Science and Religion;Creationism, Evolution, and other science issues
  • Theology, Doctrine, and Dogma; Exploring the details of Christianity
  • Philosophy; For the love of the pursuit of knowledge
  • Politics and Religion; Two hot topics for the price of one
  • Right and Wrong; Ethics, Morality, and Sin
  • Current Events; Religious issues in current events
  • Religion in Entertainment; Religion in TV, Movies, Books, etc.
  • Non-Christian Religions and Philosophies; Argue for and against religions and philosophies which are not Christian
  • Religion and Sexuality; Debating issues regarding sexuality
  • Book debates; Debate specific books
  • Head-to-head; One-on-one debates
All other forums are discussion, not for debate. Which of these would you propose churches of Christ forum be included? We have no debate forums dedicated to specific denominations (notwithstanding churches of Christ members' claim that they are not a denomination). Discussion areas dedicated to specific beliefs are generally for adherents of those to discuss among themselves or to answer questions about their faith without debate. Is there enough of an active community of members of churches of Christ to sustain such a forum?

There is a rich vein of debate topics that can be derived from churches of Christ distinct point of view:
  • Restorationism v Reformation
  • non-denominationalism
  • Baptism
  • Church organization
  • use of musical instruments
  • Use of creeds
  • Role is women in church
. But without church of Christ members active here to argue their side, these debates will not be as full or balanced as they might be. Can you recruit your wife or some of her family here to represent their viewpoint?

Full disclosure: I was once a baptized member of the churches of Christ. I am now atheist and humanist.
Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.
