What is the agenda of priests?

From a pleasant exchange in another thread:

What agenda of the "priests"? What was in it for them?
While it is not possible to know the agenda of any particular priest(s), it is possible to know the basic agenda of the priesthood (clergy / priest class / preachers) in general.

That can be summarized as: Promotion of their preferred brand of religion.

That basic / fundamental agenda can be / is augmented by any number of other possible personal agendas, including:

Gaining influence / power / prestige / status
Gaining wealth and/or personal lifestyle benefits
Championing certain causes or personal preferences
(add others)

Thus, Paul/Saul, gospel writers and others involved DID have as a basic / fundamental agenda of promoting their brand of religion – their religious opinions, stories, claims. They MAY have had additional personal agendas.

Is it wise to consider a person's agendas (to the extent they can be determined) when evaluating what they present / write / say?

If a person has an agenda of promoting a certain religion they have available any number of options. Among those options there MAY be inclination to:

Repeat what others say or write without assuring it is true and accurate
Exaggerate / make grandiose claims
Make empty promises and threats
Add to or modify what is being offered
Paint as favorable a picture as possible
fabricate
(add others)

Is there assurance that promoters of Christianity, including Paul/Saul, gospel writers, Roman churchmen, and others of the early church were immune from distorting the “message of Jesus in pursuit of their agendas?

Non-Theist

ANY of the thousands of "gods" proposed, imagined, worshiped, loved, feared, and/or fought over by humans MAY exist -- awaiting verifiable evidence

No.

Notice Paul was not a promoter of Christianity, nor were the other Gospel Writers.

Paul and the other Gospel Writers were taught by Yahshua, and wrote only what the Creator YHVH wanted in Scripture, without being influenced by the various foibles, attitudes, inclinations or ideas of the flesh or of men.
Others usually had their own agenda and pretended not to.

I'm not following you here. Are you saying that Paul and the gospel writers were telling the word of God (whether or not one calls that Christianity) and that later churchmen have distorted that? Or that the present Christian Church (pick your ow denomination) is following the Christian teachings?
