Question...

Post #1

Post by DantesInferno »

So, I had a thought, and I had no idea how to answer. If someone were to commit a sin (suicide), but through their suicide, they saved other people (someone cutting their rope during rock climbing to save everyone else), would they still technically go to hell? On the one hand, they sinned, but on the other, they saved other people. And if they didn't sin by commiting suicide, they would then commit sin by (technically) murdering others. So its a puzzle I can't figure out...

Thoughts?

I don't think what you have described is suicide. It was a selfless act to save others and the bible states "no greater love has he who would lay down his life for a friend".

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.

Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.

There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

I agree with OC; sounds like a noble act to me.

If you want an answer from my reiigious tradition, Judaism, it's easy to give and applies to any and all hypotheticals like this;

"We don't know. We can't know. God is the only Judge, and what happens after death, if anything, is in His hands."
