Jester,
"I gotta hand it to ya" -- you almost make your version of religion seem to make sense. I'm convinced that it DOES make sense to you and that you are sincere in what you say. I seldom encounter any statements in your posts that cause me to raise objection (even though I do not agree with many).
What are you trying to do -- give religion a good name? Can't you follow the example of the extremists / fundamentalists / fanatics and make ridiculous statements that are easily show to be irrational and unsupportable? Can't you help us non-theists demonstrate that religion must appeal to ignorance and emotion?
Being serious again, have you modified your position or your style of debate significantly during the past year or so? It seems as though my impression from earlier times was that your posts were not as well presented and possibly less tolerant of the convictions of others (but I have not researched old posts and this is just an impression).
If theists generally presented their views as un-obnoxiously and made so few (or no) wild claims for their chosen "gods", I would not oppose or object.
It is a pleasure to share forum membership and to exchange ideas with you

I second this post. Jester does present his points with reason and thought, as opposed to 'knee jerk' types of arguments. While I may disagree with some of his positions, I do find he has at least thought them out, and presents them to a degree of 'logicalness' that makes it hard to just dismiss them.
I might be Teddy Roosevelt, but I ain't.

Agreed. I find it difficult to debate with Jester, because his posts are always so reasonable and well thought out. I rarely come across anything he says that demands to be challenged. If there is a holy spirit, then I think that Jester shows the fruits of it in the way he conducts himself here. It's guys like Jester (as well as some other regulars here) that set the standard for Christians, I think.
Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.
Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.
There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

Oh boy, a band-wagon!
I'm in agreement here. Jester's position is still pretty opposed to my own, but he presents it with a well thought out approach and an impressive willingness to modify his point of view when necessary.
That said, his avatar-picture thing kind of creeps me out. I don't like clowns.
