If you don't believe the Bible.
Post #1Christians will often insist that certain texts can't be understood to actually mean what is plainly stated. Given enough believers I imagine that most of the Bible would be in dispute. The question is, why should the sceptic believe the Bible if Christianity does not.[/i]

I do not expect to make sense to ardent believers who build defensive walls around their literature and dogma to prevent infusion of any information that contradicts their entrenched beliefs.
Heck no. However, I trust it will make sense to many readers.postroad wrote: Good grief!!!!!!! Do you think that will make sense to him?

Post #22It's the matrix. Somehow theists are in a world of their own but claim to be living on planet earth. Then they claim that their vortex and the way of life in the vortex is to define the real world when in fact they are both separate things.Zzyzx wrote: .Heck no. Jehovah's Witnesses most certainly believe the bible. One of our most fundamental beliefs is that the bible is the infallible word of God. I think that it is only reasonble that those (like us) that promote the bible should at the very least believe it to be true and put its laws and principles into practise in their lives before they suggest other should do so.

Is knowledge just opinion?[/center]
The arguments go something like this: "My context is better than your context".
Right, all it means is that people can't agree what the Bible actually means.

I get to hear the "context" defense all the time. We can invent a "context" and then prove just about anything that way. People disagree about the said "context" even more than what the words of the Bible actually mean.bjs wrote:
It is more accurate to say, “Christians often insist that you read all passages of the Bible in context. If we pull out enough sentences or phrases out the Bible, ignoring their context, then we can make the Bible say anything we want. This is why context is important.

Right, all it means is that people can't agree what the Bible actually means.
By that reasoning when anyone claim to know the TRUTH of the Bible, they are wrong. It's all disputable, you see. A matter of OPINION. I have to wonder just whose opinions outsiders are supposed to BELIEVE.bjs wrote:
Nearly everything in every area of life is, or has been, in dispute. That says nothing about the accuracy any given statement or idea; it just means that people often dispute things.

Is all knowledge just a matter of opinion?

Post #26I don't know because I don't understand the question. Do you mean, if I believe : people that do evil are doing so because God commanded them to do evil? And they are simply obeying him?postroad wrote: [Replying to post 23 by JehovahsWitness]

Re: If you don't believe the Bible.
Post #28If so, no I don't believe that. I believe that God is good and never commands people to do anything that is anything less than his own righteous standards. The bible contains appeals from God to choose to do what is good not what is bad.JehovahsWitness wrote:I don't know because I don't understand the question. But the question should really be whether or not you believe your god is capable of having immoral or evil standards? Or do you define your god as being good and righteous by default therefore no matter what he commands people to do, it must be a morally good action?
