Dad, mom ...I'm ...um, I'm gay

Post by KCKID »

The title/subtitle says it all. This scenario must have occurred many, many times. We've all heard, read or seen instances of this and the types of responses that parents of their gay children have given. While we only seem to have a handful of vocal anti-gay Christians on this forum, I'm genuinely curious as to how they would react if their son or daughter came to them and told them that they're gay. Others, feel free to offer your input.

The question again: How would you (a Christian) respond to your son or your daughter coming out to you that they are gay? Without revealing any more than you need to, has this actually happened to any of you ...either as a gay son/daughter or as a parent?

You are assuming that I agree with gay propaganda.

I don't. Neither the APA or the left wing of political power is the arbiter of Christian truth.

It's far more than likely I'll experience my children questioning their belief in God, rather than having to deal with their embracing sexual immorality and trying to claim they are supported in scripture for doing so.

And nothing they choose changes Christian truth. And of course you know my opinion of gay culture versus Christian life. No need to revisit the immutability of Christian truth on that. Because, as it has been pointed out ubiquitously, "Jesus never said a word about homosexuality." And especially never said a word and LGBT political authority ruling The Church. So trying to force 1960's sexual liberation on the Gospel, is about as sensible as claiming that Jesus was a real baby sheep because John the Baptist never said Jesus wasn't a real lamb.
Geez, you're really something, 99percent. You're taking Jesus' silence on homosexuality to somehow reinforce YOUR stance on this topic.
Nice try KID, but it is you and your side that tries to find affirmation from absolute silence.

And Jesus wasn't silent on homosexuality. He claimed to have not come to change not one iota of the Law. And jesus REAFFIRMED marriage as man and woman. Immutably so.

And if you'd like to debate this subject using scripture in a seperate thread, I assert that what IS written in the New testament affirms immutably only marriage as man and woman/husband and wife. And the silence on homosexuality isn't there. And it is not affirming.
Jesus never said a word about LGBT authority ruling the Church (what does that even mean?) so therefore Jesus is totally against gay people BY VIRTUE of His silence!
LGBT authority is 100% secular. Jesus seperated what is holy from what is worldly. I have already chosen Christ and not the world and its ways.

Would you like the scripture reference? Although it doesn't seem to make any headway into your political demands on The Church.
Hmmm . . .
Yup. Why is it the rise of gay power coincided with the numbers of Christians growing smaller?

Hmmmmm . . .
Anyway, 99percent, would you distance yourself from your child if they told you that they were gay?
Would I distance them if they said they were Wiccan?
This HAS occurred many times and Christian parents HAVE responded in various ways.
Christ is a choice that a person has to embrace or reject. Sexual immorality is a choice that a person has to embrace or reject. There is clear Christian morality on sexual behavior. And Jesus never said a word about homosexuality being moral behavior. But his disciples sure did. And is was all negative.
And, I'm sure that it's still occurring.
As is the number of Christians falling? Causation anyone? Or correlation? Seems to go hand in hand. Rise of gay power, loss of Christians preceding it.
How would YOU PERSONALLY respond ...no Bible please!
My house is not a gay club. My beliefs do not affirm gay culture.

Now, hand me the remote. Rachel Maddow is on in a few minutes and I need to document the propaganda tactics pervading my country and being called "the news."

No Bible references in my last nine sentences. But reality still in concert.

Who is god?
I was under the impression you knew that, have you lost your faith?
I know who God is, but I wasn't sure which god you were referring to...there are many gods. We're you referring to God?
You have a particular god don't you? It was your hypothetical response to your hypothetical child to which I referred.

I don't understand why you are having so much difficulty with it.
Yes I am a child of YHWH, the Most High God. And as to your original question...you will find the answer in my response to the original question of this thread.
Why wouldn't you hug him/her and reassure them that that is the way god made them and god can do no wrong?

Does your god not create everything, can your god do no wrong?
I won't find answers to these in your previous posts as you claim.
Answers to your questions in order.
Because i don't want to lie to my child. Yes YHWH is the Creator. Everything God does is according to His will. :)
You will need to point out the lie to me, if you would.

Is your god the creator of everything was the question.

Does your last sentence mean that your god can do wrong?
Yes, of course, the lie would be to tell him that that is the way god (whoever god is) made him. Who is god?
:)
So your god made everything except your gay child? Who made him/her?

Congenital defects are what they are. Abnormalities. Only Adam (and Eve and a bunch of other people outside the Garden of Eden it seems) was created directly by God. Everyone else is made from the genetics of their parents. And as Cain shows, children can be accoutable for their own actions and behaviors. Notice Cain didn't blame God for making him a sociopath? And God didn't give him a congenital pass for having a murderous orientation?

So the hype regarding this god is just that, hype.

He's not the creator of all? OK

And now I see that you equate murder with love, how do you do that?

Would that be the genetic defects that you passed on?

This is a great example of why the myths in genesis are simply absurd if they are seen as anything other than what they are, myths. Taking this myth seriously as you do, you run into inescapable problems from the outset. In this story God gets it wrong from the very beginning. He creates rebellious and/or stupid people whose very first son is a jealous murderer, and according to you, a sociopath. These defective 'creations' continue to have character and genetic defects on a regular basis, but somehow you excuse God for all of this incompetence and lack of perfection.

Whether or not one believes in the God of Abraham, it is long past time to understand that these stories in Genesis are pure mythology.

I wouldn't know a hyped up God. I do not support liberal and progressive theology either.

You seem to demand the atheistic Puppet Master God.
And now I see that you equate murder with love, how do you do that?
And compared congenital defects to congenital defects. I would be lying if I said that I didn't understand your tactic though.
Would that be the genetic defects that you passed on?
My son had asthma he grow out of. Just like me. I don't demand a Puppert Master God. I like the free will aspect of life. Good and bad consequence follow good and bad choices.

You would rather have a God that makes us all like who for example? A world full of Brad Pitt look-a-likes? Every woman a clone of Megan Fox? Or fill in the blank one man or woman you desire ad infinitum.

I believe that was covered quite well by Rod Serling. I saw the episode on a Twilight Zone Marathon where everyone had to choose a perfect looking body. The morale of the story wasn't all that good.

(It never ceases to amaze me this Puppet Master God that non Christians and especially atheists seem to bring up all the time.)

I don't have a god. And my child is 3 and I pray that she does not choose to be a homosexual. I will teach her that homosexuality is a sin and not the way YHWH intended for mankind to live. :)

Let me see if I have you right.

Your god does drugs? Are you serious?

You claim that your god is not the creator of all and that equates to me wanting a puppet master god, yes?

Is this really your reasoning?

How did you equate murder with love again, I missed that but I did notice that now you claim that love is a congenital disorder. WOW.

Hmm, I am not shaking in my theological boots.
In this story God gets it wrong from the very beginning. He creates rebellious and/or stupid people whose very first son is a jealous murderer, and according to you, a sociopath.
Hmm, sounds very provable to me if I compare the real world to reality. 100% compatible with observable facts.
These defective 'creations' continue to have character and genetic defects on a regular basis, but somehow you excuse God for all of this incompetence and lack of perfection.
That's laughable. I don't excuse God for anything. I just live in the real world and recognize the "story" in the Bible is recognizable on any street USA. Or Europe, Asia, Central and South America, etc., etc., etc.. Ever notice how violent the world is? Aren't we all brothers? The family of man? How many people were just murdered over the last three minutes?
Whether or not one believes in the God of Abraham, it is long past time to understand that these stories in Genesis are pure mythology.
Newtown anyone? San Francisco? Boston? Madrid? Walla Walla Washington?

Sorry, your personal opinions (which of course you are entilted to) do not trump observable facts.

Oh no just myths??? Can you prove that? So I suppose the magical explosion called the Big Bang that happened long long ago in a galaxy far far away is not a myth? Or hey how about the silly idea that random mindless chemicals just by random chance got together and some how formed a living cell....sounds kind of like the old spontaneous generation belief. Oh wait a minute what about the notion that our great great granddaddies were monkeys?? and if you go back far enough our ancestors were frogs or maybe algae?? So frogs really can become princes? You like fairy-tales and myths don't you? :P
