Dad, mom ...I'm ...um, I'm gay

Post by KCKID »

The title/subtitle says it all. This scenario must have occurred many, many times. We've all heard, read or seen instances of this and the types of responses that parents of their gay children have given. While we only seem to have a handful of vocal anti-gay Christians on this forum, I'm genuinely curious as to how they would react if their son or daughter came to them and told them that they're gay. Others, feel free to offer your input.

The question again: How would you (a Christian) respond to your son or your daughter coming out to you that they are gay? Without revealing any more than you need to, has this actually happened to any of you ...either as a gay son/daughter or as a parent?

Congenital defects are what they are. Abnormalities. Only Adam (and Eve and a bunch of other people outside the Garden of Eden it seems) was created directly by God. Everyone else is made from the genetics of their parents. And as Cain shows, children can be accoutable for their own actions and behaviors. Notice Cain didn't blame God for making him a sociopath? And God didn't give him a congenital pass for having a murderous orientation?
This is a great example of why the myths in genesis are simply absurd if they are seen as anything other than what they are, myths. Taking this myth seriously as you do, you run into inescapable problems from the outset. In this story God gets it wrong from the very beginning. He creates rebellious and/or stupid people whose very first son is a jealous murderer, and according to you, a sociopath. These defective 'creations' continue to have character and genetic defects on a regular basis, but somehow you excuse God for all of this incompetence and lack of perfection.

Whether or not one believes in the God of Abraham, it is long past time to understand that these stories in Genesis are pure mythology.
Oh no just myths??? Can you prove that? So I suppose the magical explosion called the Big Bang that happened long long ago in a galaxy far far away is not a myth? Or hey how about the silly idea that random mindless chemicals just by random chance got together and some how formed a living cell....sounds kind of like the old spontaneous generation belief. Oh wait a minute what about the notion that our great great granddaddies were monkeys?? and if you go back far enough our ancestors were frogs or maybe algae?? So frogs really can become princes? You like fairy-tales and myths don't you? :P
Do you get your science from The Brothers Grim or from Hans Christian Anderson?

People might take you more seriously if you presented actual knowledge.

Man from monkeys, sheesh!
Easy now no need for blatant insults....you could be a little more subtle. Obviously you take me serious because you are constantly replying to me and I want to thank you for your attention. :)

Engaging in prostitution is a choice. For the majority of the people on this planet one's innate sexual orientation is not.

I guess then you must be sorry. As am I for failing to attempt such.

I would be disappointed and since they are my child then they would have known what i believed about homosexuality. I wouldn't have need of telling them how this lifestyle is sinful and rebellious to how the Creator intended mankind to live. I would tell them i love them and always will and will pray that they stop living that sinful lifestyle. :)
What would their knowing what YOU believed in have anything to do with reality? Do you realize that your response to them would be to "shame" them? Telling them 'you love' them while telling them they are 'sinful and rebellious' is a conflicting message that tells your children that your personal opinions are more important than who they are.

I am very proud of my mother, who is now in her 90's and a life long evangelical Christian, that she has had the courage and the compassion to counsel and show love and acceptance to the many Christian men and women of her church who were rejected by their own parents (many of whom were 'Christian' ministers) and accept them and love them after their own 'Christian' parents showed the attitude you express about their homosexuality. This attitude you describe places doctrine above love.

None of her own five children are homosexual, so she did not come to this compassionate and loving acceptance because of any personal or family obligation. She came to it solely because she is a loving and intelligent woman who is able to see thru the misleading cultural tissue that too often obscures the true message of Christ.
I intended addressing this post earlier but got caught up in other things. I simply want to say that your mother appears to bear the good fruits that we are to know them by.

That's all I wanted to say . . .
I wonder if that 90-year old mother has ever heard of the terms Rent Boys and "Turned out."

And does "love" include celebrating, supporting, encouraging and furthering a perosn in their sins? Where did Jesus preach that kind of salvation? It's a contradiction of the Gospel to celebrate sins.

I wonder if this 90-year old has ever read the dictionary of Gay slang? Slang does so tell the nature of a culture. But it's something that I can't even link to on this site without violating decency rules. But if needed please send me a PM.:

But here's the caveat before reading along:
GAY SLANG DICTIONARY
GAY SLANG DICTIONARY
Gay slang is constantly evolving, with new words being added frequently, and for these
reasons, we should never, forget the fabulous terms of today, and of days gone by, in the
years of the past.
Disclaimer
Gay slang may be offensive and vulgar. Most of the vocabulary of this
Dictionary comes from a adults, Environment such as gay nightclubs, gay
bathhouses, and other places where gay and lesbians meet socially. Due to
the adult content presented in this dictionary. Note parents are advised this
Dictionary contains sexually explicit language, that is not suitable for
young children.
I do not apologise for any offence taken from the following dictionary. you have been
advised of the sexually explicit, racist, sexist and prejudicial expressions. To omit or
censor this language, would limit telling, the whole story, of gay and lesbian history,
and that would present a false impression of current and past linguistics.
Where is gay culture compatible with Christian life?

So, what is your point? There are many advertisements on the web that offer straight sex. Not all straight people or gay people engage in these kind of things, but you like to emphasize the gay people that do and imply that is what they all do, and totally gloss over the straight people that do.

Nope. Same logic applies to a professionalism sexual orientation.

The congenital pass can be used for anyone at anytime for anything. That cat is out of the bag (no pun intended) and is running wild. People that engage in homosexuality don't have any exclusive rights to this excuse for engaging in their chosen sexual behavior.

You are assuming that I agree with gay propaganda.
And what propaganda is that? That they are human and deserving to be treated as such?
I don't. Neither the APA or the left wing of political power is the arbiter of Christian truth.
There seems to be so many varieties of 'Christian truth'. Who do you think can be the 'arbiter of Christian Truth'. Why should the liberal Christians accept your judgement about what 'Christian Truth' is?
“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?

Care to back that up with something other than right wing literature?

I would acknowledge their feelings but tell them not to act upon the feelings as we should not act on other feelings that may lead to sin. The urge to lie, the urge to commit adultery, the urge to steal are real feelings but if acted upon results in going against God's will.
