When I learned that the Bible speaks of a restored Garden of Eden and the restoration of mankind to the perfection and endless life that Adam forfeited, I was thrilled. Who doesn't want to keep living on this beautiful earth, with our loved ones, and being able to do all the things we love to do---endlessly?
If God said to you today, "When do you want to die?" would you say "now!!"? I don't think very many people would say that.
We CAN live forever here on Earth. The Bible tells us that we can.

Re: Paradise on Earth
Post #492QUESTION: Will paradise be "boring"?Monta wrote:To want to remain on earth forever would be boring.
Although it is not common, neither is it unheard of for people to object to the idea of eternal life in paradise as being "boring". Whether we find something "boring" or "interesting" is an entirely subjective thing, based mostly on our center of interests as well as our personal likes and preferences, so this post is not written to convince anyone that they should find something interesting that they cannot (for whatever reason). I feel it is safe to say however, that no Jehovah's Witnesses believe eternal life on this our planet earth transformed into paradise like conditions will be " boring".
Since "bordom" like "beauty" is very much in the eye of the beholder, this post will examine the reason's for our own sincere belief that paradise will not be boring. For us.
1. An unendingly interesting God

The primary reason Jehovah's Witnesses wish eternal life (whether that be for the small number - 144, 000 - in heaven or, as is the subject of this post for those that look forward to paradise on earth) is to have an eternity to discover new and facinating facets of the God they worship JEHOVAH. The bible says we have, even in His revealed word the bible only had glimpses of "the fringes" of his facinating mind and intelligence and an eternity will not be long enough to discovere all there is about his unlimited intelliegence and boundless love. The book of Revelation speaks about "new scrolls", understood to be new sources of divine revelation, by which we will have more to learn about God but an infinite God who is generours with His subjects will always have interesting information to share. Jehovah's Witnesss yearn for the time and opportinity to discover more about their facinating God.
NOTE: Jehovah's Witnesses also believe in the existence of intelligent spirit creatures (referred to as "angels" in the bible). We do not know the extent to which humans will be permitted to interact with such one, but there is nothing in the bible that interaction on some level with the millions (perhaps billions) of super intelligent beings will not one day be a facinating feature of life in paradise.
2. How big is the universe

Some wonder why, since humans inhabit a very small planet, revolving around a small star (the sun) in a tiny corner of a signle galaxy in a sea of galaxies, the physical universe is so vast. While we may speculate that this may well have been for His good pleasure, and the delight of the observing angelic creatures, it seems reasonable also to conclude that this physical universe represents a practically endless source of facinating discovery for those that find cosmoslogy, possible space travel and/or the workings of outer space "interesting". How many lifetimes would it take to discover everything that is "out there"? Far from boring if such discovery were your passion.
3. Human intelligence and Creativity

It has been suggested that the most complex thing in the physical universe is actually the human brain. While scientist speculate as to how much of it we actually use in one lifetime, there seems little doubt that the potential of humans to explore the limits of their own creativity is almost endless. Using, less than as some speculate, a small proportion of our brain power, humans accomplishments in the field of physics, mechanics, mathematics, invention, innovation, technology, the arts ... and much more has been impressive to say the least. Yet death has meant that our Einsteins, Newtons, Mozarts, have had their potential cut short and obliged others to build on what they left behind. What will mankind be able to achieve if they could live forever? Granted for something new by a Da Vinci, a Mozart (or a Stevie Wonder), hold no interest whatsoever for some, but in a world were there are potential "geniuses" (genei?) in every conceivable field, and one of those geniuses may well be ourselves, operating at "maximum capacity", how boring will this unending stream invention, innovation and creativity be?
4. Humans: God's Masterpiece

Yet it is not only what man can do that is facinating, it is man himself. Human beings at their best are an endless source of facination and emotional wonder. Even in our imperfect state, subject to express negative characteristics, there are still couples, married for 50 years, and having had a lifetime together want another (and another) because true love is not "boring". Good relationships, not just romantic ones, constantly evolve as the person does, changing in nature but remaining facinating and fulfilling. The prospect of getting to know everyone in our human family, learning about them and our connection to them, not to mention those that will come back in perfect health from the grave, is, for Jehovah's Witneesses one of our most cherished hopes. People find stories about other people, whether fictional or factual, endlessly facinating. In a perfect world, with unlimited time, the "book" of the human family is one many of us will wish to read. And it will be a book where new chapters and "revisions" will never cease.
4. Plant & Animal life: Endlessly facinating

For many people plants and animals are a source of joy and facination. It's not unusual to hear of biologists study a single species for many years and still not fully understand everything about it. Our beautiful planet is bursting with life and sadly for many of us, the closest we will get to deep sea diving, whale spotting or seeing "Gorillas in the mist" will be a tv documentary. For those that love or will learn to love nature, the study and enjoyment of all animal or plant life will indeed take an eternity. And even for those of us that will not be inclined to study nature in detail, the pleasure animals and plants give to humans will remain a source of joy and wonder.

NOTE: Jehovah's Witnesses believe that God ceases creating new life forms at the end of the 6th "day" or creative period. There is nothing in scripture that indicates it is impossible He will, after this present period of "rest", again create new and facinating species for humans to enjoy in the future.
CONCLUSION: Of course all of the above sections could be broken up into subheadings and written about at length. Each Jehovah's Witness has a topic they can wax lyrical about when it comes to hoped for pursuits in the paradise; it is in short, one of our favorite topics and the subject of many a dinner conversation. More seriously it is a basic biblical teaching we have been commissioned to publicize and draws many people to the positive bible message. Humans with measure of mental and physical health, tend not to get "bored" with good food, love and fellowship, sex, music etc because we were created to live , love, enjoy, learn, study, explore the physical universe. This message sounds deep in very being of those that will be in paradise to see and experience such things forever.
Jehovah's Witnesses render all praise and honor for the above to our Great loving and generous God JEHOVAH!

Post #493"So you're really serious? How could life on earth possibly be boring? Have you seen everything there is to see here? Have you learned everything there is to learn? (The scripture you cite also applies to the earth.) Have you chosen to not consider the scriptures that tell us of eternal life on Earth? What do you say about Matt.5:5 and Psalm 37:9-11,29?

Jesus continously speaks of heaven and hell and judgement.
Yes meek shall inherit the earth, but God created heaven and earth.
Surely we are not going to have an empty heaven!

Many of this stuff may keep you going for millions of years, but we're talking about eternity here. There can't be an infinite number of things to learn. The universe cannot possibly be infinite. Everything that exists is finite. Somewhere along the line you are going to have done everything you wanted to do, learnt everything there is to learn, done it over and over and over and lost all fascination of it. Maybe we could go for billions of years. But try to grasp infinity. Sooner or later you will get to the point where you will have had enough of it. You'll be begging God for death.

If this is what God has created for us on this earth, imagine the other horrors we might come across. Perhaps even greater horrors than this.

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.
Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.
There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

Re: Paradise on Earth
Post #495[Replying to post 492 by JehovahsWitness]
As has been pointed out on a number of occasions and ignored on as many, in order for these things to happen, the universe has to be transformed so that the expectation is deliverable.
As such, the transformation will effectively mean a new universe and this means everything including what is presently the planet earth, wont be this universe, but another one.
Even that being the case, and supposing that the new universe is equally as vast as this present one, the underlying motivation for belief in this promised eventuality is no different fundamentally from transhumanism and those who embrace such an idea of living forever are of a particular personality - one which is obstinately unrealistic, overly romantic and hopelessly ill informed through the choice of willful ignorance.
Obviously the idea of being in one type of reality forever has to eventually involve changing that reality as much as possible in order to keep ennui at bay. One really has to think about how long forever is...it is immeasurable and as vast as the universe is or how God-like one's personal knowledge can - over time - become, no matter the vastness of this universe, it will eventually become simple pointless at some stage of that everlasting incarceration within it and all that a consciousness can do within it at that point is to create simulations in which to invest itself into in order to forget its then-present omniscience in order to lose itself in its simulations that ennui is kept at bay.
The point of all this being, one can - here and now - remove themselves from the Romanticism of what appears at a glance to be a wonderful option (living forever in a similar type of physical universe as per said JWO belief systems) and see the most likely results of any consciousnesses which so happens to do so, as being - realistically - not at all as attractive when thought about logically.
After-all, not only will you be incarcerated in this one universe, but you will understand also that there is at least one other universe to which you will never, ever have access to.
And perhaps in your knowledge-base gained after the first couple of million years therein, you will also understand that there are uncountable universes to which you are forever denied access to.
(Or, perhaps by that stage, you will discover you were duped and find ways in which to escape this universe be free to explore and experience other ones at will? Meanwhile, for as long a time as it took for you to get to that realization, others had already been doing just that.
)
But to get back to the points made about the belief that GOD will change this universe to better suit the support of the display of goodness (like making the animals so that they behave nicely towards one another etc) this is no different from the stories of 'heaven' to which the JWO representatives are oft seen criticizing.
Listen, truth be told, once you have been within this new and improved universe for half of a forever (which is long enough for all consciousnesses together to transform it into a grandiose machine of some kind...I mean you are going to have to do something with your god-like-by-then-knowledge right? Just to not be bored at all) - you are going to want to recreate and for all that, you will have no need of Jehovah as you will have become - in this universe - gods in your own right and will be able to recreate your environment to suit, you would have learned to create critters for yourselves, improving upon the designs etc... and, in doing so, would have worked out, that Jehovah is really someone who was able to do those things way back even before your alleged beginning, those very things which you will eventually one day naturally be able to do yourselves.
Therein you will finally discover that Jehovah is as a GOD no different from you as a GOD apart from the fact that HE is free to ping about at will in whatever universe HE feels inclined to do so, and you will remain GODs of the one universe, constrained in just that one universe, and all through your own choosing because once upon a time you were given the option and grabbed it with both hands, mind body and soul without putting any more than a romantic thought into it at all. It is after all, so easy to make uninformed choices when you think that the only other choice is non-existence, and thus you are obviously getting a good deal, especially since you don;t even deserve it, sinners that ya'll are. How great is the grace of Jehovah! Not!
All because some book of yarns told you so.
It would be hard to feel sorry for beings so trapped in one universe forever, when they didn't even bother to question their beliefs or engage in logical thinking about those beliefs - just accepted the promise of salvation and inheriting a planet in a universe because that is the type of personalities that they are, and in a way, deserve it.
Only, well...the type of personality I am, doesn't think anyone really deserves that. Not when there are more options than just those ya'll have chosen to believe in.
Just saying. And for all that, would gladly repeat it to any door-knocking fantasy-spreading individuals.
I will let you know how that goes.

Did you read any of what J.W. posted above? What about the physical body is too limiting for you?
Jesus did indeed speak of heaven and what awaits his co-rulers there. What will they rule over? The earth.
Jesus mentions "hell" or "hell-fire" approximately 10 times. It wasn't a favorite topic of his. Mainly because "Hades" means the grave and "Gehenna" means total annihilation, as does "the fire" prepared for the Devil & his angels, and also the lake of fire in Revelation. He didn't dwell on the destruction of the wicked. What he talked about more than any other topic was the Kingdom. He spoke of it approximately 155 times. Are you clear on what the Kingdom is? Did you know that Paradise Earth is part of the Kingdom arrangement (and is considered the "courtyards" of the government which is seated in heaven)?

If by "transformed" you mean that there will be miraculous intervention from God for all this to be fully accomplished, then I would agree.William wrote: [Replying to post 492 by JehovahsWitness]

I did acknowledge the supernatural intervention of God in my closing remark.

Re: Paradise on Earth
Post #498It's just your limited opinion that says that "there can't be an infinite number of things to learn." Over 8 million witnesses of Jehovah believe that there will never be an end to things that we can learn. God is infinite! Of course His creations are infinite, such as the universe. So you would be "begging God for death." How sad. I disagree. I believe that there will never come a day that anyone will say, "I've had enough. I want to die." That idea is pitiful.OnceConvinced wrote: [Replying to post 492 by JehovahsWitness]
BTW, God didn't create humans to be sick or malformed. That all came as a consequence of Adam's rebellion. Jehovah is going to make everything right.

Re: Paradise on Earth
Post #499JehovahsWitness wrote:QUESTION: Will paradise be "boring"?Monta wrote:To want to remain on earth forever would be boring.

Re: Paradise on Earth
Post #500How could there possibly be an infinite number of things to learn? If that were the case then even God couldn't possibly be all-knowing. You would have a paradox right there to say God is all knowing. It would be like saying that God can create a square shaped circle.onewithhim wrote:It's just your limited opinion that says that "there can't be an infinite number of things to learn." Your opinions here sound outrageous and very much like wishful thinking to me. Where in the bible does it say that the universe is infinite and that there is an infinite number of things to learn?
Please produce bible verses.
Well for one thing, not all those images show sick or malformed things. Only 1 maybe 2 in 8 of those images does. Why focus on just the one image and ignore the others? Some of those images show creatures that were apparently created for a purpose, some to even provide food for other animals, some to feed off the blood of other creatures.onewithhim wrote: BTW, God didn't create humans to be sick or malformed. As for the sick and the malformed. The only way we could have that is if there were flaws in the system design to begin with. Sin can only corrupt the system if first there is a fatal flaw there to allow it to enter and corrupt. That would mean that the overall design is flawed.
Also note that the word of God says:
Psa 139:13
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
So everyone who is born was knit together in the womb, so if we have deformities, those are not there due to sin. They are there because God knitted them together that way.
Exodus 4:11
And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?
This here quite clearly shows that God deliberately creates humans deformed or disabled.
The following verse even shows us that God did this so that the works of God could be shown manifest. The WORKS OF GOD! It even tells us that it's not due to sin at all.
John 9: 1-3
And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
Sin is clearly not the root of the problem. For the system to have had that flaw in there which enabled sin to completely mess it up, it either had to be put there accidentally (incompetent design) or deliberately (malevolent design).
It's been about 7 thousand years and he still hasn't. I ain't holding my breath.onewithhim wrote: Jehovah is going to make everything right
Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve.
