The kingdom of God.

Post by Checkpoint »

Some seem to think it is entirely future, while others give the impression they are always thinking of it as present, and to not be looking at the future in kingdom terms at all.

Jesus had much to say about the kingdom, including this:
Luke 16:

6 The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone is being zealously urged into it.
So, where do you stand as to whether it is present, future, or has both a present and a future aspect?

On what basis?

According to which scriptures?

Well then I suppose you will not be continuing it with me. I understand and thank you for your frankness.

But, you reached the point of "where he won't hear". This is common with JW's. Their minds are closed to anything other than their doctrine. My office's land lord is one, he shuts his ears too. But, I will say, he never quits trying to convert me...

Well, yes, I see your point. The bigger issue of course was that my point was never actually addressed at all. The only response was deflection and denial through a modification of the claim I originally objected to.

The fact remains that JWs are far from the only Christians who take a literal view of the kingdom of God.

You will need to be more specific. "His kingdom", from Mt 6:33 is in reference to the Spiritual kingdom, for which the children of God live in currently. The "kingdom" whereas "My Servant David will be king over them" (Ez 37:24) would refer to the "end of the age", which would refer to the "awesome day of the Lord" period (Joel 2:31), which is still behind the door (Mt 24:33). The world now is ruled by the 8th head of the beast (Revelation 17:11), and for the most part, those who "dwell on the earth" (Rev 13), are deceived, and carry the mark.

Unfortunately we all of us or part of us out of sync with God's natural order , which is what we call the "Kingdom of God". How to get back in sync is the question. If we can ever get back in sync we as a race , the human race , we would find ourselves in the kingdom of God. Once again getting back in sync seems to be the hard part. It would be nice if God would do it for us , heavenly Jerusalem descending from above upon us but that ain't gonna happen . We fell out of sync and we have the responsibility to get back. The koh is waiting for us to show up.

The citizens of Sodom fell out of sync too and God fixed the problem. When you say "we" you imply a common humanity struggling to get back into sync. That's not the case or the problem. God is an unknown quantity; the situation is exactly what one would expect were there no God. The biblical God involved himself with trivialities - making Noah, for instance, find two weasels or two rabbits ... while today's God is on permanent holiday. The "out of syncness" is caused by his silence, not by some poor old soul sitting in a church praying the wrong prayer.
