Jesus preaching hate?

.
Wasnt Jesus said to preach Love one another and Love your enemies?

Why then demand that disciples HATE those close to them?

Luke 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. KJV

Does that make sense to anyone? Explain.

Hating parents seems to be completely at odds with the major commandment to honor them.

Not burying them would also be at odds with that commandment and yet when discussing the cost of being Jesus' disciple, Jesus said this:
  • Matthew 8: 21 Another disciple said to him, Lord, first let me go and bury my father.

22 But Jesus told him, Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.
We could argue about the full meaning of this reply, what is not in question is that Jesus told the disciple to follow Jesus and not bury his father. This certainly is not honoring his father.

What is more baffling is how people read such conflicting statements and do not even attempt to use their intellect to see if there is some resolution. I cannot imagine anyone even reading a letter which contained conflicting statements and not trying to resolve them. Once again, the Bible is treated as "guilty till proven innocent" on every statement: not merely those that contain a miracle. Would, say, Z, treat Plutarch the same way (his stories often contradict themselves)? Herodotus?

I have taken philosophy and literature courses: if I (or any student) simply yelled, "contradiction" at Kant or Plato or Melville or Plutarch, without any attempt to seek a resolution, I would have received an immediate F.

Yet here, knee-jerk reactions are treated as "intellectual".

That is the real interesting question.

But the question is about language. Z of course does not note that the original text was in koine Greek and the original spoken word probably in Aramaic. He thus does not know that languages differ in connotations: connotations which later languages like English might have assigned different words altogether.

For instance, semitic languages will use hate and love to cover cases which we would use "choose" and "reject". English "hate" and "love" carry with them connotations of emotion; the semitic terms do not.

This is the case with the Bible.

What is even more baffling than that is that people will see obvious conflicts and yet ignore them in order to hang on to the comfort that absurdity provides them.

Jesus wants us to love others. The biggest obstacle is how much we love ourselves and our family. Couldn't you work that out from your understanding and experience of life?

Just from a wisdom point of view if you don't hate losing you will not start trying to win. If yodon't hate sugar you will keep eating it. Or another way, if someone says to you they wish they were 10kgs lighter you can know they are lying. You know when they lose 10kgs that they hated being 10kgs heavier.

So people loving their family and themselves is an obstacle to loving others? How so? How does that work? That notion seems at odds with what Jesus said, when he said to love others as we love ourselves.
My theological positions:

-God created us in His image, not the other way around.
-The Bible is redeemed by it's good parts.
-Pure monotheism, simple repentance.
-YHVH is LORD
-The real Jesus is not God, the real YHVH is not a monster.
-Eternal life is a gift from the Living God.
-Keep the Commandments, keep your salvation.
-I have accepted YHVH as my Heavenly Father, LORD and Savior.

I am inspired by Jesus to worship none but YHVH, and to serve only Him.

But fits perfectly when Jesus said the following:
  • Matthew 10:34 Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn

    a man against his father,
    a daughter against her mother,
    a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law"

    36
a mans enemies will be the members of his own household.
Of course there is no mention of love here, but consistency isn't a trait one finds in the reported words of Jesus.

This could be a valid argument if things like this were an isolated case. But the Bible is filled with absurdities and self-contradictions from beginning to end. There simply comes a time when to continue to make excuses for it becomes nothing more than beating a dead horse.

There is so much wrong with this religion that people have been arguing over it endlessly for centuries. That's a pretty sad theology.

Not only this, but even the so-called "believers" are at seriously grave odds with each other's apologies. The absurdity of the theology overwhelms itself.

And we can't even restrict this just to Christianity, we absolutely need to include all manner of Judaism and Islam in the mix as well. Let's not forget that those theologies are based upon these very same God myths.

There basically is no meaningful religion underneath any of this to even speak of. There's simply nothing credible left to defend.

Yes. Essentially tribalism and self centred is at the centre of most conflicts.

So men should not love their wives, or their babies? Or vice versa? Is loving one's family "tribalism" and against the teaching of Christ?

Also, didn't Christ say we are to love our neighbor as we love ourselves? If we hate ourselves, that would follow from that maxim that we should hate our neighbor. The ethic of reciprocity carries with it it's converse, does it not?

And what do we do now, with the Commandment to honor our mothers and our fathers since Christ supposedly said we are to hate them? At least in once place, in another he indicates that keeping the Commandments (including honoring one's parents) would help us to "enter life".
