Describing the Christian God

Question for Debate: How would you describe the Christian god?

The Christian god is an immaterial, timeless, space-less mind which is to say he's made of nothing and exists for no time in no particular place yet exists everywhere for all eternity. Although he's not made of matter he can interact with matter pushing things around and starting fires and floods and plagues and killing lots of people.

One "day" this being decided to create the world we live in by saying so. It should come as no surprise that he thought the results were "good." However, at least two problems existed in this good world. For one thing, God created a really bright angel named Lucifer who got too big for his britches thinking he could be like god. God, not being a proponent of free thought, became angry with Lucifer and cast him and one-third of Lucifer's allied angels out of heaven and down to the earth to cause a lot of trouble there.

Lucifer started the second trouble with the world by disguising himself as a snake and convincing the first woman Eve and her husband Adam to eat some fruit God told them to not to eat. It didn't take long for God to notice the deed, and he soon convened a meeting with Eve, Adam, and the snake. He kicked Eve and Adam out of paradise and made the snake eat dirt.

All was not lost by any means because God promised to send a redeemer to reverse the curse he laid on Eve and Adam and all of their descendants (that's us)--it would just take a while for the redeemer to arrive to save the world--four thousand years to get here!

In the meantime God was very busy with his world that wasn't so good anymore. He made major contributions to this lack of goodness with a world-wide flood and lots of wars he instigated. During this time he chose a people to be holy for him telling them what to do and punishing them if they disobeyed. These people became known as "Jews."

Finally God decided to send the redeemer he promised by getting a Jewish woman pregnant with himself. Evidently seeing sex as beneath him, he never used a penis to get her pregnant but maintained her virginity until she gave birth or even had her remain a virgin perpetually depending on whom you ask.

God named his human self "Jesus" and even started telling people he was made up of three "persons" in one god not bothering to explain the apparent change.

Anyway, God as infant grew up to be God as man and started a ministry. He recruited followers, started showing people his magic, told people they must believe everything he said, and started a fight with the Jewish leaders.

This fight with the Jewish leaders would apparently lead to his undoing in that those Jewish leaders had him executed by the Romans. But you can't keep a good God down, and Jesus as God came back to life. He visited some of his followers, ate some fish, magically walked through a wall, and then floated back up into the sky promising that despite his going away he would still be here.

So ever since then God has his followers eagerly expecting his return to get the job done destroying civilization and casting billions of people into a lake of fire. Until then he has his followers meeting once or twice a week to hear his story, sing off-key hymns, and eat hotdogs at picnics.

Now if anybody is experiencing difficulties believing all of this, they need to get over their doubt. God really hates skepticism and will send you to that lake of fire if you think there isn't one.

And what (if there was a God that does not tolerate wickedness) would be ridiculous about ensuring that his actions in this regard are not forgotten ?
My point was the method was ridiculous since it is (a) demonstrably false with all current available geologic, genetic, radiometric, (and probably other) scientific observable evidence and (2) Pointless in nature due to it's uselessness at doing anything lasting.

What happens to likely false, pointless stories over long periods of time? They certainly are not upheld by the majority as any sort of 'action from God'. At best they are upheld as fanciful fiction by people of the day.

There are many mythological stories in our collective memory. Now that the flood story has been for all practical purposes debunked, it simply joins all the other stories we still have from the past. Hardly any more impactful or useful than any other.

benchwarmer wrote:2) Even if a flood did happen, for the sake of argument, it's effects were pointless. The sinning started again almost immediately (or did it even stop?). How is that lasting impact?
That would logically depend on the desired effect (the point). If you read my post "What was the PURPOSE of the Noahic flood?" carefully you will see I made no mention of eradicating sin or indefinitely wiping out wickedness, but I did speak of leaving a "impression on mankind" as in creating an event so globally cataclysmic it would leave an indelible record on mankind's collective memory as a lasting testimony to The Creator's justice and power. If that was the "lasting impression" desired it seems that it was mission accomplished as evidenced by the many flood myths all over the world.
So now you are admitting there are a bunch of flood myths. And you think the Noah flood story was the seed of these? You realize the Noah flood story was preceded by other flood stories right?

I would put my money on actual local floods and fanciful story telling being the seeds for all flood myths, not one actual cataclysmic flood that there is zero evidence for.

It seems your entire point is that because we are still talking about the Noah flood, God has achieved His purpose. If that purpose was to have the story eventually relegated to the myth category and creating yet another dent in the credibility of the Bible, then job well done I guess.

I think Jesus tell in the Bible well who he is.

This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
John 17:3

the Father is greater than I.
John 14:28

Jesus therefore answered them, "My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me. If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God, or if I am speaking from myself.
John 7:16-17

…I said, 'I am the Son of God?' If I don't do the works of my Father, don't believe me. But if I do them, though you don't believe me, believe the works; that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in the Father."
John 10:34-38

…'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"
John 20:17

But he said to them, "I must preach the good news of the Kingdom of God to the other cities also. For this reason I have been sent."

Luke 4:43

For God didn't send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.
John 3:17

Pilate therefore said to him, "Are you a king then?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice."

John 18:37

Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I tell you, I speak not from myself; but the Father who lives in me does his works.
John 14:10

Is there something unclear in those?

It's fiction all right--straight out of the Bible. Isaiah 14:12-14…
It doesn’t have anything about God being against free thought. And the Ezekiel 28:12-19 says: “You were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created, until unrighteousness was found in you. So, the reason seems to have been unrighteousness. The same reason that leads also people to death.

God might be described as misogynist too. See Biblical sexism.

THIS is misogyny.

Written by - I suggest - Middle Eastern men, and passed off as the "Word of God".

That's a passage about God creating Satan. It's not the smartest thing God ever did! But notice that what got God really upset was Satan just thinking about being like God.

If I was cursed with second-class citizenship because I had the wrong genitals, then I'd feel I was being prejudged and treated with contempt. Wouldn't you?

I see no reason why a god would care to curse women, but men who have been turned down for dates sure would want to curse women!

The quote about "how art thou fallen....Lucifer son of the morning..."

You iniw what is so odd is that out of the blue Jesus said he saw Satan fall from heaven. Now hold that thought. Think of anything else that came down from the heavens in the Christian Testament. Think Jordan river and the baptism. A spirit did and landed on Jesus. Didnt say what kind if sourit did it. Hmmmm.. Then he was immediately swept away to be tempted.

(Now keep in mind one is only tempted by what they desire)

So what WAS jesus' temptation? Herd if camels? All you can kosher burgers eat McHolyland? Nooooo. It was to have everything he could see. Now if he were God that wouldn't be a temptation because God owns everything. So if he were God then he didn't pass any temptation like Christians claim. But he isn't God. What is also odd us that the temptation narrative says that the devil left Jesus for a season. Which means he left him for ahile but returned. Is no mention of the devil coming back to Jesus but it said left him for a season. Why does it say that? What does that mean?
Also... the story says that Jesus tasted 40 days BUT AFTERWARD he was HUNGRY. Now because Jesus is Human it means he couldn't go without water that long. Food maybe. But I don't think it means his fast was denying himself food or drink. I think it means he fasted from the temptation. BUUUUUUT AFTERWARD HE HUNGERED FOR WHAT HE DESIRED. To be king of this world. How many billions of people call him Lord?

*What to his disciples call themselves? Prisoners in Christ. Prisoners? Odd

*Didn't he cause the earth to quake ?

*Isn't he portrayed as the most high?
Sitting on gids throne or on the throne with three chairs (trinity)

* It says Christians are buried with him in baptism unto death

*Some of he last words Jesus says is that he is the bright morning Star. Oddly enough that star has been called Lucifer.

*Jesus is called the branch

* When Jesus died it was said to DESTROY SIN IN THE FLESH
"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, SON OF THE MORNING! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I WILL ASCEND INTO HEAVEN, I will EXALT MY THRONE above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I WILL ASCEND above the heights of the clouds; I WILL BE LIKE the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this THE NAN that made the EARTH TO TREMBLE, that did shake kingdoms;
That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his PRISONERS?..But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable BRANCH, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.Thou shalt not be JOINED WITH THEM IN BURIEL, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the SEED of evildoers shall never be renowned.

THE ADVERSARY.... we've known what he is like since day one. He gets people to disobey God and gets them to believe they won't die if they do. It's the oldest trick in the book.

Satan ..HaSatan...he has a tough job...his job is to get people to turn away from God. He is the embodiment of sin. Though he himself doesn't sin. But when jesus dies an unusual sratene t us made:. DESTROYING SIN IN THE FLESH. Hnmmm How strange ..Jesus is said to be sinless yet people who listen to him have turned their back on God's laws because Jesus they think has replaced them. Interesting

Satan lives forever. Wow...it says Jesus does too.
Satan is to eat dust all his days
Strangely, the disciples are told to knock the dust off their feet when they can't convert people.

I COULD GO ON ADD ON WITH SIMILARITIES

Jesus said:. I go my way and no of you ask where I am going.
Jesus never said who his father was but said one day he'd show you plainly of the father
No one knows where he is going ir who his father is but they will follow him into eternity

Jesus is not like God. But there is one he is like. And he has done his job well on earth

Come judgement day this entity we call Jesus will say he never knew me. To be known by him is something to avoid. We all have to be tempted to prove ourselves.

IT IS TRUE...NO ONE GETS TO GOD BUT THROUGH SATAN
PASS RIGHT THROUGH HIM . YOU HAVE TO GET BY HIS? OH I fear for those who call him their Lord and savior
