God didn't restore the lost tribes of the northern kingdom to their homeland as he expressly comments in this chapter of Ezekiel.

We have Christ revealing the truth in the OT (or in/of anything). Since Christ is the Truth, that just makes sense to me.
I am not insisting that. Some things are literal, some things are not. But the physical construct of the temple and priesthood is meant to help us SEE the spiritual reality.Basically insisting that much of the OT isn't literal but rather spiritually written?
Many people need to SEE something to be able to even begin to grasp it. That is why we have examples to begin with.
Christ, who is the Truth.Who decides what is literal and what is spiritual truth?
Some of it, I suppose, if it is written as such. Can the NT be interpreted in the same way
Christ is the Truth - so I would hold up anything written in the NT from anyone else against the Light that is Christ as well.
Scriptures? Not that I am aware of.and can we expect a further progression of revelation through new scriptures in the future?
But understanding can be progressive... because sometimes we have to learn the basics first. In the same way that someone must at least learn what numbers are before they can learn how to add those numbers together.
Christ is the one who does this teaching. As He also said to His apostles, "I have more to say to you, more than you can yet bear."
Peace again to you,
your servant and a slave of Christ,

Would it be fair to say that God had no intention ever to literally fulfill the "promise" to the "seed" concerning the "land" as was/is believed by the Jews?

No, I don't think so. I think that during the millennial reign, Israel (Israel that is not part of the Bride of Christ - either the 144000 or the Great Crowd), will also come back to the land. Literally, working it, living in it, no one permitted to harm them in war or steal crops, land, children, etc, etc. But I do not myself fully know or understand everything surrounding that.
However, the new covenant, the promises regarding the new heavens and new earth, is the covenant made through Christ.

The above response is dependent upon me understanding fully what you are asking, lol... which I might not, since many words are placed in quotations. Just wanted to be clear on that.

Just to be perfectly clear, you would agree that God swore by himself an oath to Abraham which God never intended to fulfill literally as was understood from the plain reading of the text?tam wrote: [Replying to post 42 by postroad]

This one?
That promise is the reason that there are 144 000 RESERVED from among Israel, to be kings and priests with Christ.
This is also why Christ was sent to the lost sheep of Israel, beginning with the Jews (Judah and Benjamin) FIRST.
Israel - both kingdoms - broke their end of the covenant many times. God was/is under no obligation to keep His end to them, since it was based upon them also keeping their end. Although every time they repented, He took them back.
But the promise He made to Abraham WILL be fulfilled (because a) God does not lie; and b) Abraham's faith and obedience to God)... and so some from Israel (offspring of Abraham) are specifically reserved in keeping with this promise.
Though all Israel will be saved, but not all will be kings and priests with Christ. They were the first to be offered this, but most rejected Him and that offer.
(ps... it may help to understand that the Kingdom is upon the earth. The New Jerusalem which is the Bride of Christ who rule WITH Christ as kings and priests - is a city that is made of PEOPLE, rather than things. That city comes down out of heaven, and is upon the earth, because the Kingdom is upon the earth. So yes, there is no reason to think that Israel will not be dwelling within the land; and as stated, some of them will also be ruling with Christ as kings and priests)
That Kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom.

Genesis 13:14-16New International Version (NIV)
14 The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. 15 All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring[a] forever. 16 I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.
Genesis 22:15-18New International Version (NIV)
15 The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time 16 and said, I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, 18 and through your offspring[a] all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.
Exodus 32:13
Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Israel, to whom you swore by your own self: I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and I will give your descendants all this land I promised them, and it will be their inheritance forever.

Isaiah 14:1-2New International Version (NIV)
14 The Lord will have compassion on Jacob;
once again he will choose Israel
and will settle them in their own land.
Foreigners will join them
and unite with the descendants of Jacob.
2
Nations will take them
and bring them to their own place.
And Israel will take possession of the nations
and make them male and female servants in the Lords land.
They will make captives of their captors
and rule over their oppressors.
