What Exactly Is Your Problem With Christianity?

Post by Benson »

Lots of people say Christians "Are trying to jam religion and God down our throats." Yes, I know how this is a figure of speech. But, I doubt any of these people can say how this actually happens. Nobody is forcing them to do anything about God or religion. Why the complaint?

To help non Believers in God to better understand why Christianity is good for them, here are some reasons:

1.) If you want to have a better life, obey God. Jesus says those who obey His Commands will live better and longer. Such as getting everything they need for life, and living forever.

2.) If you give yourself completely to God, you will not go to Hell.

3.) If you belong to God, you will feel better.

4.) If you become a Christian, you can even accidentally believe the wrong Theology, but as long as you state Jesus is God and He died for you, you can still go to Heaven.

5.) After you become a Christian, you will not go to Hell for not understanding The Bible, because no person alive understands The Bible. That is why every part of The Bible is argued about. After you die, then you will understand everything about it.

6.) If you become a Christian, you will always have someone important to talk to who lives you.

7.) Finally, when you are a Christian, you will probably save a lot of money on useless things. Maybe.

Point being, ya got a whole lot of assertion going on here, yet nothing to back it up. Is this what you wanted to debate? If so, then I win!! Image because you haven't backed up a thing, which, if you like, is "exactly my problem with Christianity": a lot of talk but no proof or even reasonable evidence.

Let me have a go at saying how this actually happens:
Coerce people, myself included, to go to church.
Blue laws, I remember a time when certain retailer cannot trade on Sunday.
Inserting creationism into curriculum.
Legal obstacle to same sex marriage, abortion and euthanasia.
Religious exemption on laws designed to stop discrimination against other people, such as employment laws.

Sorry, if this is too far from the topic, but I would like to know where do you get that idea? Doesn’t seem to be what the Bible tells.

While I appreciate your attempt, coming from someone who was a Christian for decades, it's futile.
1) My life now is better in almost every way than when I was a practicing and believing Christian.
2) A quick perusing through this very site will show you not all Christians believe in Hell. I guess the 'holy spirit' hasn't convinced some of them. Or maybe 'the devil' has convinced believers to believe in something (hell) that's not true? These two sets of people can't both be right! Or people thrive on the threat of danger to better hinder their inner demons, as it were. The threat of eternal damnation will do that for some.
3) Overall, I feel better about myself than when I was a believer. Too many ascribed rules that don't make any sense aside from the need to control. Which isn't something I'm in to, personally.
4) I've seen people (even know a couple) that have seen Heaven in dreams and NDEs that weren't and aren't Christian. So it seems, Heaven may not be 'just for Christians no mo!''
5) God: "Yeah I wrote it, but you won't understand it anyway."
Everyone else: "So why bother?"
6) Ridiculous statement IMHO. It's saying only Christians have someone important to conversate with. Way to belittle everyone else on the planet!
7) Not if you're tithing and giving your money to support the AC, heat, lights, pastor salary, etc.

Overall, I hate Christianity. It's a cult that's protected legally (in the USA) and yet, tries to force its views in many aspects of everyday life instead of letting its example draw people to it. I find modern Christianity a disgusting and vile, barbaric ritualization that has no place in society that values the individual and fosters independent thought.

But, if one wants to practice Christianity, I don't give two hoots so long as you do it as far away from me and my family as possible. I don't want to subject them to any cult you can name, be it Christianity, Mormonism, Scientology, JWs, the next Jim Jones or Heaven's Gate.
Have a great, potentially godless, day!

You have just given a far more honest answer and perspective than any white knuckled and arrogant moderator or any yapping pundit in this forum.

Jesus lied. There is clear evidence to the contrary.

2.) If you give yourself completely to God, you will not go to Hell.
Unverified claim.

3.) If you belong to God, you will feel better.
Some reports regarding the mental states of Christians contradict that statement.

4.) If you become a Christian, you can even accidentally believe the wrong Theology, but as long as you state Jesus is God and He died for you, you can still go to Heaven.
Unverified claim.

5.) After you become a Christian, you will not go to Hell for not understanding The Bible, because no person alive understands The Bible. That is why every part of The Bible is argued about. After you die, then you will understand everything about it.

Not limited to Christianity so not really an advantage.

7.) Finally, when you are a Christian, you will probably save a lot of money on useless things. Maybe.
Maybe not. Your tithes and donations can amount to more than you can really afford and also can be used to simply enhance the lifestyles of those at the top of the pyramid.
If that's your case, it's not much of a hook to hang your hat on. Then there is the downside to consider.
George Orwell:: “The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those who speak it.”
Voltaire: "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities."
Gender ideology is anti-science, anti truth.
