The 144,000 in JW theology

Post by Wootah »

My understanding only 144,000 JWs go to heaven in total over the sum of human history.

https://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/q ... to-heaven/

Is that correct?

There are 9 million JWs worldwide (rounded up).

https://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesse ... w-many-jw/

Will the vast majority of them not go to heaven and be annihilated? What happens to the JWs that don't make the 144, 000?
Proverbs 18:17 The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.

Who do you think will inherit the earth and live on it? Who does the earth belong to? "The Earth he has given to sons of men" - Ps 115:16
What I see the word righteous and Jesus of the righteous... "righteous ones into everlasting life.” So you do see the words man or angel in Jesus statement? The word I see in Ps 37:29 is that the righteous will inherit the earth. Who did God give the Earth to? Man.
If the righteous are going to rule the earth for ever and ever, then they need to live for ever and ever.

Mankind (even those who are righteous) do not live for ever and ever as humans.

The only way to live for ever is to be born again of the Spirit as a spiritual bodied being.

Only the righteous men and women who believe in Jesus will gain everlasting life and live eternally on the earth.

But once they gain everlasting they are no longer men and women but godly spiritual beings:

Psalm 82:6 wrote:I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
John 10:34 wrote:Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
Believers will have become new creatures upon being born again of the Spirit:

2 Corinthians 5:17 wrote:Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Galatians 6:15 wrote:For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
Those that are "born again" are the ones who will actually reign with Christ over the earth, and they will be spirit beings....and the only ones besides Jesus who are immortal.

The rest of us, who will remain on Earth, need not be "born again" because we will maintain our physical bodies and enjoy this physical planet forever, just as we are enjoying it now. For more information on this subject, please go to the website www.jw.org. You might find it very encouraging.

Yes, those born again of the Spirit will be spiritual bodied beings.

For what purpose do physical bodied human beings continue to live on the earth?

To fulfill Gods original purpose for humans.

GENESIS 1:27, 28

And God went on to create the man in his image, in God’s image he created him; male and female he created them.+ 28 Further, God blessed them, and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many, fill the earth+ and subdue it,+ and have in subjection+ the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and every living creature that is moving on the earth.”
GENESIS 2:8 , 15

Further, Jehovah God planted a garden in Eʹden,+ toward the east; and there he put the man whom he had formed. .. Jehovah God took the man and settled him in the garden of Eʹden to cultivate it and to take care of it.+

The original purpose of humans is to replace the angels who left their first estate -- the earth.

Speaking of those who shall inherit the Kingdom of God in the world to come, Jesus states:
Luke 20:36 wrote:Neither can they die any more, for they are equal unto the angels... (Luke 20:36)
If mankind is perfect for the job, why are those humans who inherit the Kingdom of God upgraded to angelic beings?

That's like asking God for what purpose did he create humans....
He has much variety in his creations. There are billions upon billions of physical planets and stars out there. Not spirit planets and stars. How can we know the mind of Jehovah? The fact remains that he created physical things and he created spiritual things. I can't see the physical planets and stars disappearing someday into the spirit world, and neither can I accept the idea that physical humans will disappear into the spirit world. For what reason would they do that? All the animals and the other things of God's physical creation would be just GONE? I believe that there is a purpose for this physical earth, just as the Bible tells us in Genesis. Jehovah's purpose has not changed. (Genesis 1:28, 2:15) And, further:

God "did not create [the earth] simply for nothing, but formed it to be inhabited." (Isaiah 45:18)

The original purpose of humans is to replace the angels who left their first estate -- the earth.
The angels' first estate was heaven. They looked down on women on the earth and left heaven to be with them. See:

Genesis 6:1-4 (You'll notice that there is a distinction between "men" and "the sons of the true God" in verse 4.)
II Peter 2:4,5
Jude 6
I Peter 3:19,20

Whether it was a replacement or not, Gods stated purpose was that humans reproduce and fill the earth, taking care of it and the animals.

That is Gods purpose for humans.

A small number of humans (144,000) have been selected by God to rule with Jesus from heaven in his kingdom government. The rest of mankind will be subjects of that government living forever on this our planet earth.

NB : This "little flock" of born again Christians are resurrected To a position superior to the angels so it represents a grand privilege.

What I find interesting is that god's preoccupation with sex and his disdain for women again raises its head: Sex with women defile men, and all of the 144,000 anointed males are virgins. Poor guys . . . . And, poor wimen. Virgin or not, they're completely out of the picture.

Revelation 14:3-5
3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

Q. Who are the 144,000 suppose to rule over?

You keep referring to humans, man, or mankind does this or that. And the this or that generally involves the words forever, everlasting, or eternal.

You state that the 144,000 humans are born again. I assume that you mean born again of the Spirit. If that is so, it is no longer correct to call them humans. They are equal unto the angels according to the Bble.

==================================================

The rest of mankind includes whom?

Every human who ever lived minus the 144,000?

The rest of believers minus the 144,000?

Will things on earth remain the same? That is, will they have families and more children?

Will all of these particular mortal humans live forever, or do you mean that mankind as a species will live forever on the earth?

I agree.

But man was not the first beings created for that purpose. Angels were the first beings chosen to care for the earth.

The angels were not commanded to reproduce because angels cannot reproduce.

So when some of the angels under Satan's command rebelled against God in Heaven, God created man lower than the angels but able to choose whether or not to become equal unto the angels and replace them as caretakers of the earth.
