The kingdom of God.

Post by Checkpoint »

Some seem to think it is entirely future, while others give the impression they are always thinking of it as present, and to not be looking at the future in kingdom terms at all.

Jesus had much to say about the kingdom, including this:
Luke 16:

6 The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone is being zealously urged into it.
So, where do you stand as to whether it is present, future, or has both a present and a future aspect?

On what basis?

According to which scriptures?

Okay, so the kingdom of God is the condition or state when people feel united with Chist in their hearts. Its a feeling or a mental state. Is that about right?

I am not sure what you mean by united kingdom.
What does the word "kingdom" mean in its reference to my country if origin THE UNITED KINGDOM? You have heard of the United kingdom right?

Does the actual word kingdom actually have a meaning ? What do you make of MissKates suggestion that ...

I guess I don't know why you are asking about the united kingdom as it doesn't seem relevant to the topic of the Kingdom of God.

To say the kingdom of God is his rule or reign would be anthropomorphic. It is not like God exists in a place. That is not the God of classical theism, and I would argue is not a god at all.

All words have meaning, ; Its not a word that has been unused in the history of mankind, what is a kingdom? Do know what the word means? Does it - and has it ever meant - "existence" ?

ZECHARIAH 14:9 - American Standard Version

And Jehovah shall be King over all the earth
PSALM 97:1 NWT

Jehovah has become King! Let the earth be joyful. Let the many islands rejoice
REVELATION 19: 6 - Douay-Rheims Bible

And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of great thunders, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord our God the Almighty hath reigned
ISAIAH 52:7 Jerusalem Bible

How beautiful on the mountains, are the feet of one who brings good news, who heralds peace, brings happiness, proclaims salvation, and tells Zion, ‘Your God is king!’

Yes, God is king by analogy, thus these are anthropomorphisms. I understand that JWs reject divine simplicity, so it is no wonder you think God exists in some place somewhere. That is very much like Zues.

This is not God, though.

"United" is a stretch for both the UK and the kingdom of god you describe. If your god's kingdom is what you say it is, then it has been divided against itself since the beginning.

So is there any truth in statement ....

And Yahweh will be king of the whole world
I'm particularly interested in what you think the meaning of the words "will be king" is?

In the beginning was the Kingdom of God.
There is no end to it.
Where does it say that the Kingdom was "in the beginning"? Contrarily, the Scriptures say that the Kingdom is coming.

"Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in heaven." (Matt.6:9,10)

"The God of heaven will set up a Kingdom that will never be destroyed....It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it alone will stand forever." (Daniel 2:44)

"A child has been born to us, a son has been given to us; and the government will rest on his shoulder....To the increase of his government and to peace, there will be no end, on the throne of David and on his Kingdom in order to establish it firmly and to sustain it through justice and righteousness, from now on and forever." (Isaiah 9:6,7)

Does this not look like the Kingdom hasn't been set up yet? It is something that will come, as Jesus taught us to pray for. It will be "established firmly" in the future.

No, that is not about right.

It is far from what Aquinas wrote and meant.

Take closer look at what he did say, and compare that with what you added.as beig what he meant.

He did not mean "a feeling or mental state"
