It seems reasonable to assume that the tree of life represented eternal life which, had they have been faithful, Adam and Eve would have been rewarded to eat from

But they could have eaten from it at any time prior to them eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil since it wasn't on the forbidden list. The supreme being was taking a chance that they hadn't eaten from it in case they ate from the forbidden one. But even if they did, they apparently could still eat from it because He kicked them out of the garden and wouldn't let them back in so that they couldn't.

There is no indication that they knew of this second tree ; Eve made no mention if it and the only other mention of the Tree of life in the Genesis narrative is Gods thoughts about it when they were expelled. If God didn't want them to know of its existence or eat from the Tree of life he was more than capable ensuring they didn't do so by "accident" .

An omniscient god taking a chance on A&E not doing what he knew they would do? I don't think so.

Was it ever intended for the fruit from the tree of life to be eaten? And if so, when?
