Genesis 1:2 speaks of the beginning of God's creative work on the earth.
Genesis 1:1 states that in the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Then, Genesis 1:2 describes the condition of the earth at some time after it's creation of very good in Genesis 1:1:
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (Genesis 1:2)

Post #33Just a comment on the young earth theory. There is no reason to think that the earth is only a few thousand years old. The truth jives with what scientists have been saying---the earth is around 5 billion years old.

Yes, human's were originally designed to live happily on earth.
The age of the earth is about 4.54 billion years. But Adam and Eve can be traced back to a mere 6,000 years.
And in the creation described in detail in Genesis, Adam and Eve were created on the sixth day of that creation process.
So it appears that Adam and Eve were not even part of the original creation which occurred 4.54 billion years ago.
They would have to be created and designed to live happily on earth in the re-creation of the earth which occurred about 6,000 ago.
Yes, humans were designed to live happily on the earth, nut not in the original creation.
Man was in Plan B.
Your statement I colored blue would be correct if you change "re-creation" to "created".

Genesis 1:1 is all that is said about the original creation of the earth roughly 4.54 billion years ago.
But Adam and Eve can be traced back to only about 6,000 years ago.
So the six day period of creation in which Adam and Eve were created would be a re-creation as it was not part of the original creation in Genesis 1:1.
The earth was created in Genesis 1:1, and it had become empty, void, and dark as described in Genesis 1:2.
So God returned about 6,000 years ago and re-created the earth to its original very good condition and created mankind to replenish the earth.
Genesis 1:28
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Genesis 1:1 was the original creation, and Genesis 1:3 begins a re-creation of an existing earth which had become empty, void, and dark.

Post #37No. Genesis 1:1 covers the creation of the whole universe. Gen.1:2 just catalogues the beginning of the process of creation.myth-one.com wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 2:27 pmCapbook wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 1:22 pmGenesis 1:1 does not say re-creation. Re: What is the origin and destiny of man?
There seems to be a mentality and view that Adam and Eve were expected to remain in theGarden of Eden forever in a condition of never having their eyes opened and procreating and all therein would be part of a gigantic nudist colony. having no ability to comprehend good or evil as the Gods who created them so declare.
The Garden did not include all of the earth, so if if we were to accept your man made private interpretation of scripture, then all the rest of the entire earth which was "very good" as described in Genesis would be totally wasted.
How many people could fit in this "Garden" of limited size?
Remember that there is no evidence whatsoever in Genesis that Adam and Eve in their child like innocence ever had any children or would have had children therein.
If they or any of their intended posterity had not exercised their agency to choose this mortal probation which then opened the door for eventual death and subsequent resurrection the original plan of God to provide a savior and redeemer would have failed. Thus there would have been no need of the atonement and resurrection provided by Jesus Christ.

Why do you think it was the original plan? I think the savior was included to the plan, because God knew it would be needed. But, it does not mean that God wanted it to happen.Revelations won wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 10:23 am If they or any of their intended posterity had not exercised their agency to choose this mortal probation which then opened the door for eventual death and subsequent resurrection the original plan of God to provide a savior and redeemer would have failed. Re: What is the origin and destiny of man?
Post #40It is Biblically true that God made the earth to be cared for by Adam and Eve. They were to extend the Garden of Eden world-wide. It is clear that that was His plan.Revelations won wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 10:23 am To all respondents,

"God blessed them and God said to them: 'Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it...'" (Genesis 1:28) "And Jehovah God proceeded to take the man and settle him in the garden of Eden to cultivate it and to take care of it." (Genesis 2:15) This was to be forever, unless they took fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of God and Evil. If they did they would die.
It is wrong to think that they had no knowledge of good and evil. They undoubtedly did, or God would not and could not hold them responsible for embracing evil. God certainly instructed them on the necessary things they should know so they would act wisely and be protected from the consequences of evil. He would talk with Adam "in the breezy part of the day," for decades, until Adam dropped the ball. (Genesis 3:8) Adam and Eve decided to become "like God," as the Devil suggested, and choose for themselves what is right and wrong. That is the way they became like God. They made their own rules and decided for themselves what is good or evil. Because Adam full well knew what was good and what was evil, God could hold him accountable for sinning against Him. If Adam didn't know, he would not be held accountable. God is fair.
Their eyes were open, and they were told in the beginning to procreate and fill the earth. (Procreation was not something that was the result of their disobedience.) Your accusations are groundless.
