SABBATH...

Post by Capbook »

Is the Lord's Sabbath in the OT still for God's people in the NT?

Luk 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment

And when God will make the new heavens and new earth all God's people will come to worship Him from new moon to new moon, and from Sabbath to Sabbath. (Isa 66:23)

If we profess to be a Christian, as follower of Jesus, Jesus as His custom was to enter the synagogue every Sabbath to read the Scripture, the Sabbath rest (sabbatismos) for God's people. (Heb 4:9)

If we profess to be a Christian, as follower of Jesus, Jesus as His custom was to enter the synagogue every Sabbath to read the Scripture, the Sabbath rest (sabbatismos) for God's people. (Heb 4:9)
The Scriptures plainly state that Christ's sacrifice "abolished...the Law of commandments consisting in decrees" and that God "blotted out the the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and 'took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.'" (Colossians 2:14, KJV) Further: "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come..." (Col. 2:16, KJV)

Jesus followed the Law when he was alive on Earth, but after he died the Law was abolished, as we have seen. So his custom to read the Scripture in the synagogue every Sabbath was no longer in force for Christians. "Christ is the end of the Law" (Romans 10:4) which results in Christians being "discharged from the Law." (Romans 7:6) Christians are no longer under the Law, but have been freed of its ordinances. Therefore it doesn't matter what day we honor God's rest.

Nor for that matter, the other 9 commandments.

There are over 600 commandments, and we are free from the 600. We don't have to sacrifice animals or wear blue threads on our garments, among many other ordinances, but the Ten Commandments give us God's thoughts on how humans should behave, even outside the Law of Moses. The Sabbath Day now refers to God's rest. How can we honor God's rest? It is all the time, how we live our lives. Jehovah said: "...I became disgusted with this generation and said, 'They always go astray in their hearts, and they themselves have not come to know my ways.' So I swore in my anger, 'They shall not enter into my rest.'" (Hebrews 3:10,11) The Jews were not worthy to enter God's rest because they kept breaking their covenant with Him. (See also verses 18 & 19.)

As the 9 commandment include "thou shall not kill," do that mean we are free to do the killing because of the ordinances?

What was blotted out was the handwriting ordinances not the finger written 10 Commandments of God.

The Sabbath rest still remains for the people of God.(Heb 4:9)
If we entered into God's rest, we also ceased from our works as God rest on the seventh day from all His works.(Heb 4:4, 10)
God commune to His people, if you consider yourself as member of the people of God, you had to keep the seventh day Sabbath.

Heb 4:9 So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
Heb 4:10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.
Heb 4:4 For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: "AND GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS";

If you mean that the other 9 commandment still stand.

Would you consider that God had given your church only the Ninealogue not the Decalogue?

I don't. But that would be the logical conclusion based on onewithhim's comment.

Do that mean that there's no Ten Commandments at all? (I colored blue)
