Hello everyone,

My name is Damaris and I've been visiting for a couple of days now, even though I haven't made any posts. I decided to join this forum because it will keep me from creating unnecessary arguments with my husband j/k ;) Actually, I joined because I like to see other points of view... and stand up for my own. I like this site because it recognizes that standing up for your beliefs doesn't mean you have to put other people down. Happy debating!
And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all... in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth. Timothy 2:24-25

I hear you. My wife won't let me debate religion at family gatherings, company parties or with our friends. She lets me debate here though and with those people who come to the door (but only if we have nothing else to do).

So THAT is the real purpose of this forum -- keeping peace at home. What a concept.

No wonder my wife encourages me to “pick on” fundamentalists on the forum instead of bantering with friends.

I enjoy the opportunity to debate in public where our words can be evaluated by many readers who are capable of evaluating what is said in support of, and in opposition to, religion.

Recently it appears as though the number of non-member guests has increased from what seemed to be an average of about 100 per twenty-four hours to 136 today – and the number of members visiting the site seems to have increased by about 20%. The threads seem to be even more active than the past few months. Is it a seasonal influence?

I feel the need to clarify that I not mean that I argue with my husband about religion, seeing as both we share the same Christian faith. Rather, I was implying that because I enjoy debating I may create unnecessary arguments to start up a discussion...then I wrote j/k because I don't actually start up a fight over every little thing...even though sometimes I may want to. The real purpose of this forum is displayed right at the top:

"The pursuit of knowledge and truth, through God, through science, through civil and engaging debate" ;)

...although some individuals may have another agenda.
And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all... in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth. Timothy 2:24-25

By all means, get out in the main forums and “argue”. We’re not supposed to debate in this, a discussion sub-forum. What would you like to discuss with non-theists? Start a thread if a favored topic isn’t currently active.

Welcome to the forum. I look forward to seeing some of your views.

Welcome Damaris. Glad to have you with us! Look forward to seeing you in the forums.

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.

Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.

There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.
