Zeitgeist II : The Addendum
Post #1Well, it's out there. The first was interesting enough, allegedly describing the "Matrix" we live in. This one supposedly offers a solution. Should prove interesting. Downloading it now. Will share thoughts on it later.

Just finished watching it. It's more or less what I expected, as it has the uncanny ability to put into words what I think most people these days understand at a subconscious level. Things like mega-corporations being the real nations of the world, how the monetary system is inherently "flawed" and designed to create and perpetuate debt, how currently available technology could pretty much free people of having to work altogether (as "work" is understood under a monetary system), and this is an interesting notion, not easily assimilated or even fathomable in our society, but as a transhumanist I think the movement described in the movie embodies the very spirit of transhumanism, and I think people who subscribe to the philosophy can very well envision such a world, without pre-conceived notions of some depressing apathy setting in and dooming a humanity without work motivation, or something like that. The movie offers what I think is a reasonable and realistic set of steps most people can subscribe to, even if only to a couple, that are meant not to violently fight the system, but to peacefully make it fail more quickly and overtly than it is designed to, which is precisely what we can observe today. The current situation isn't because some people are incompetent, it is because it is designed as it is. These bailouts should be obvious enough to expose the situation, and the systemic flaws, but apparently they aren't. All in all, I advise everyone to watch the movie.

It gets a little dry in parts, honestly, but how could it not with the the bulk of the subject matter being how loans work and where the American gov't gets it's money.
I was, however, deeply fascinated by the 'resource based economy' described in the later third of the film. The current monetary economy is wholly failed, as, I believe, have all forms of gov't which revolve around it (which the film confirms nicely.)
The need to make a profit will, as stated in the movie, drive all successful businesses to some level of corruption or another as an inevitable byproduct of competition.
It was nice to have articulated what I'd long thought but never quite been able to phrase adequately. I strongly recommend both Zeitgeist movies, and commend their producers for their thoroughness and attention to detail.
