The purpose of the "Gay" Crusade

Post by TheQuestioner »

When i was about ten years of age i attended church on a regular basis. I remember vividly that i few times in sunday school i was taught that being LGBT was horridly wrong, and also that Muslims were sad people because they put so much time and effort into the "wrong religion". Now I tried hard to believe this, but in the end even as a ten year old i couldn't, i couldn't see what was wrong with being gay, and this has got me wondering. What is the purpose of targeting and discriminating homosexuals, what would it achieve for any church base except alienate a portion of their church body? and lastly Why isn't this energy spent on something that does not alienate people and can universally be considered bad, like adultery?

please help me out it confuses me so much at times.

sorry if a similar thread exists i'm new here

Gays are a minority, they are easy to pick on and suppress. I think you'll find that the chance of meeting an "adulter" is a lot more high than the chance of meeting someone who is gay etc. Thus the amount of time and money spent is significantly less than what would be spent trying to stop adultery. Also adultery is generally considered a much more natural and socially acceptable thing to do. Thus it would be a lot harder to get people on your side if you began targeting them.

I'm with Evales on this'n. I think currently the 'ick' factor holds more sway than the 'understanding' factor. I would encourage those who are gay to keep the pressure up against those who would oppress or discriminate against them.

Because the Bible says so. The Bible is the ultimate Christian (sometimes the only one depending on the sect) moral authority so believers need nothing but the Bible to justify their actions. The Bible says to stone homosexuals so Christians have no problem discriminating.

yeah but what does targeting them accomplish, what does the church gain by demonizing them, I'd say it pushes just as many away from the church as it pushes towards, but that is just me

They just need someone to pick on now that they can no longer condemn and suppress blacks or women

I would say that it is more about staying within the publics attention. They don't want to just become a part of life but more a WAY of life.

Not simply because they love to discriminate. However at the level of the individual that could be the case.

The church doesn't think in such terms (or they want us to think that they don't think in such terms). It is not about what the church personally gains or loses in terms of converts, but "saving" people by teaching them the "correct" religion. Preaching selectively and distorting what they view as the word of God in order to become more popular would not be in line with their goals (preaching the "correct" religion).

I guess so, but still there are literally thousands of things churches can/could teach/preach without touching on the homosexuality issue which in the new testament is extremely vague. Why does churches seem to focus so much time and energy into an area that is just so hateful and from what I've seen detracts from their public support

No it isn't, the Bible is clear on homosexual activity from beginning to end.
