The purpose of the "Gay" Crusade

Post by TheQuestioner »

When i was about ten years of age i attended church on a regular basis. I remember vividly that i few times in sunday school i was taught that being LGBT was horridly wrong, and also that Muslims were sad people because they put so much time and effort into the "wrong religion". Now I tried hard to believe this, but in the end even as a ten year old i couldn't, i couldn't see what was wrong with being gay, and this has got me wondering. What is the purpose of targeting and discriminating homosexuals, what would it achieve for any church base except alienate a portion of their church body? and lastly Why isn't this energy spent on something that does not alienate people and can universally be considered bad, like adultery?

please help me out it confuses me so much at times.

sorry if a similar thread exists i'm new here

No it isn't, the Bible is clear on homosexual activity from beginning to end.
Have you done a personal analysis of what the Hebrew and the Greek words mean?
“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?

Don't tell me, the church has had it wrong for 2,000 years.

No, just merely the last 1600 or so.

The fact that you evaded let me know you haven't bothered to look at the Greek words and the context.

Spin this:

Romans 1:24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.
25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator"who is forever praised. Amen.

26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones.27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

Prove this:
God exists.
God created anything.
God doesn't like homosexuals.

I realize the bible may claim such. I ask for proof the bible speaks truth.

Paul is talking about people who used to be Christians, and have fallen back to Paganism.. he talks about the sexual rituals that some paganistic religions do.

So, what Paul is complaining about is not homosexual behavior, but the Christians returning to a fertility religion that was common in Rome at the time.

Where did Paul mention a fertility religion in that context? He condemns homosexual activity, not other religions.

Sorry, I'm not going to jump through your hoops, or at least not until you prove God doesn't exist.
God doesn't like homosexuals.
I never said God doesn't 'like' people with same-sex feelings, He dislikes homosexual activity. Similarly, He loves people tempted by adultery, He hates the sin of adultery.
I realize the bible may claim such. I ask for proof the bible speaks truth.
Thank you for being honest enough to say the Bible condemns homosexual activity. Whether that is truth is a separate question.

And he then continues on to describe the rituals in some of the fertility cults of Rome at the time.

So what exactly do you believe the Bible's perspective on homosexuality to be? Are you saying that there is a discrepancy between the new and old testament on the issue?
